kilos y is now 5months and 3 weeks old. I wasn't breastfeeding her so she's taking a formula milk. On her 5th month we decided to give her some baby food. At first she still consumes the same amount of milk even she eats solids. BUt after a week we found out that her milk consumption drops. From 30oz/day to 16-20oz/day! But she eats lots of solids. I wanted to know if its ok or normal to babies?Im a first time mom and I really dont have any idea of raising a child. Another thing my pedia told us before that my baby is overweight. And she advice us to control her feedings. at his age she weighs almost 9kilos. I want to put her on a diet but I can't. Everytime she cries and asks for food I can't control myself giving her something to eat. Is it really needed to put a baby on diet?

Baby grows much more faster than adult. They need the alimentation in the food. I don't think it is necessary to put a baby on diet.

At 5 months they are most definetly to be eating baby cereal and baby food, my doctor gave me a little chart to follow which tells you what age they should be eating what and at this point you are doing fine but don't cut out the formula, she should still have 24-30 ounces of formula a day. They are all ready at different times so you can't follow a chart to the t. My son is 10 months old and he don't want baby food anymore he likes to feed himself so he's already eating table foods but he is still drinking the formula also. I can't see putting a baby on a diet, maybe you want to look for a new doctor or just get a second opinion. I don't know how much 9 kilos is but I can tell you my son at 5 months was about 18 lbs which was a little above average but now he's 10 months and is 21 lbs which is about average. good luck!!!

Hi ayessa... i can relate to your dilemma. My daughter, now 1 year and 6mos, has been overweight since birth because she responds well to eating and drinking milk. She grew up through mix feeding. Yes, on the onset, as her metablism changes, the intake of milk will vary. That's normal as the baby s adjusting. On her 3rd month, Her pediatrician advised me that we can start solid food with my daughter since she has doubled her birth weight already. I was a bit skeptical that time especially I was a first time mom. But when a nutritionist friend saw my daughter, she was happy coz my daughter was healthy. She wasn't really overweight. In fact IT IS NOT ADVISABLE TO PUT ON DIET CHILDREN BELOW 2 years of age. It is actually their developing years and they need much nutrition for their organs, brain, bones and the entire body to develop properly. Just make sure that your child gets the proper nutrition and vaccinations. Fed whenever hungry in moderate amounts. I hope this helps. just msg me if you have further questions. Take care and enjoy being a mom. It's such a wonderful experience.

I would say whatever your pediatrician recommends is right. I know how you feel though I hated for my babies to cry. But you will find out they a little crying wont kill them although it will drive you crazy.

For a start, my daughter is 23 months old now & at a healthy weight of almost 12 kilos so your baby sounds like she is overweight with the weight she is so young. Maybe diet is the wrong word to use - perhaps you need to just monitor WHAT you feed her, less sugary stuff & more vegetables, try giving her a bottle of formula instead of more solids. She shouldn't be on too mmuch of variety yet since she's not really that old but try something like a baby 'rusk/biscuit' - then she can eat/suck on them & get the nutrients without over eating. Every time she cries, doesn't mean she's hungry either so perhaps you could try giving her a part bottle of formula or even water instead of food :) Babies really don't eat that much as they have such tiny stomachs but it seems you have allowed her belly to grow & allowed it to be able to take on more food. I think you should try other things than food when she cries & make sure to feed her only healthy foods when it is meal time, no fruits, jelly's or custards - only meats & vegetables. Also, try & get her to be more active - babies usually aren't all that active at that age so buy a walker or jolly jumper so she can be put in there & actually get some exercise, that will help herto lose some of that baby fat! Good Luck!

How often and how much are you feeding her? She should be starting to get small meals (3 times a day) that include some solid food and starting to reduce the amount of formula she intakes. However, solid food should not be the main source of her food.

your first mistake was giving her food at 5 mos. You should start babies on food about 6 and a half mos. and try cereal, if she is havinga hard time swallowing the add the cereal in her bottle. You can also put the baby food in her bottle, with that she is still fulfilling that taste for solid food. Babies the older they get the less milk they drink, nothing to worry about. that is gonna continue till they're done growing(maybe around 21). and as far as the ped telling you that she's overweight, that's a bunch of bs. she's a baby and they go through growth spurts, and she's too young to be put on a diet. worry about that when she's about 6 (if necesary). Just because she is crying doesn't mean you have to give her food, babies don't know when they're full and it's up to you as the parent to monitor her intake. Most of the time babies are crying because they want something to suck on. So,next time she's crying try giving her a pacifier.
