Cockroaches, how WELL can you live with them?

What do you do when you see them? - Do you welcome them, feed them, kill them or ignore them?

I have forgotten about my fear of cockroaches until I just responded to a discussion and he responded with a creepy yuck. In the old home where I lived, no matter what traps we lay, how thorough our baits are, we can never outsmart these cockroaches. When we thought we have conquered them all, the act of nature will somehow bring one in again. A flying cockroach (big one) is enough to frighten the wits out of us. At times we enjoy play catching with them. To my mum, it was an indication that it is going to rain. I develop the fear of cockroach when I was having biology lessons. I have caught quite a few cockroaches and one of my classmate decided to have some fun. He innocently held on to a kicking cockroach and pluck its head out of its body pulling along with it the intestine. Yulks! Yulks! That severed my relationships with any cockroaches. Now, I guess I still have the loudest shriek when I saw someone unknowingly touching a cockroach, dead or alive. How about you, my friends? Are cockroaches your friends or your foes? When you see any, do you feed it, catch it or ignore it? Kindly share :)

I despise cockroaches. My husband has tried to get me over the fear but he has actually made it wore. Thank god there is pest control.

Like if we get one, he won't kill it so I have to. Where we lived before this place our neighbors moved out and didn't tell anyone. All of a sudden we have a lot of roaches. Thank god for the cats catching them because they make me want to vomit.

I am not scared of roaches, but I will not stand to live with them. I have had roaches only twice when I was living in my own apartment, and I hated it then. The first time I had rented an entertainment center from a rental place. It looked clean when I was in the store, but after they delivered it, and left, a lone roach crawled out to see the new diggs. I immediately got up and started scrubbing the entertainment system down with Pine Sol. My boyfriend at the time went to the store while they were bringing it in. When he came back in and saw me scrubbing furiously he was puzzled. He asked "What's wrong?" I didn't even break stride wiping when I answered "I seen a roach!!!" We didn't find any more after that. Later, after we moved in the building to another apartment, had been there a while, and someone moved out of theirs upstairs, we started getting roaches from their apartment because there was nothing to eat up there. I began a regiment of keeping all food in containers, keeping the kitchen wiped down, mopping the floors at least twice a week, and spraying the perimeter of the house with roach spray. It took a little while for them to get the message this time, but finally they moved on. No, I am not afraid of roaches, but I feel having them in the house is a sign of being unclean. I can't stand to be in a house like that, so I don't like roaches.

I feel creepy when I see cockroaches. When I see one, I just run away from it as far as possible, especially those flying cockroaches. I don't know what make me so afraid of these little creatures but I know if I have the guts, I will definitely kill it.

Well most of us hate cockroaches except for a few japanese who love roaches more than their kids. Anyway even though we like them or not i dont think we have any choice, but to live with them peacefully with no wars. Cause we cant outlive them and we certainly cant get rid of them. They survive like direct gamma radiation. So i dont think we could get rid of them completely. And if they dont exist, i think your poo junction (incase you have one) will pile up really fast and all the food left overs will get piled up too.

I saw an episode of "Mythbusters" which tried to find out if it's true the cockroach would survive any armegeddon type disasters.. but I can't remember what their conclusions were?!! - I guess I would tend to think of them as enemies!

well in canada cockroaches are nasty, they bring disease and people who have too many of them get evicted out of their homes. When there are cockroaches you have to have your place fumigated or you will never get rid of them.

Frankly speaking I am not scared of these insects. But I regard them as the nasty creatures as they often devastate our belongings like clothes, books and other household stuffs. The most awful thing is that they always leave the disgusting droppings and old peeled dry skins and make our house dirty and messy. I think the best way to get rid of these unwelcome creatures is to tidy our closets and leave them aerated with the door wide opened regularly as I believe cockroaches like only to live in dark places.

Aargh cockroaches were everywhere in Samoa, and when we lived in my husband's grandparents place we could not get rid of them. The house if very old and was built in the early days so we just managed as best we could. I hated them when they flew around though YUCK and when they flew into my hair I would scream my head off hahaha!

Geez, I hate those roaches too. And I wouldn't want to touch them! They are dirty, dirty and dirty - touch them and who knows what germ you might get? I normally kill it with a tool like slipper or hardcover book or whatever. Then I will make sure to clean up the place. These roaches are disgusting. Can't they just find a place to hide or contain themselves them and not disturb people?

Unlike many people, I'm not afraid of cockroaches. In fact, my youngest sibling even gave me a name being the "roach killer" because I kill them everytime I have the opportunity. The only time I get afraid of them is when do they fly and land or crawl over my skin. Honestly, there are plenty of roaches inside the house. They easily multiply even if you kill them regularly. I guess this is due to the fact that whenever they lay their eggs, these contain more than ten offsprings. I learned this from watching shows in the National Geographic channel. But now that one mylotter mentioned it, I discovered that they do come to life again if they are not stepped down. I'm a bit confused because some say that stepping them down isn't adviseable because this will only make the germs from the cockroaches spread, thus spreading disease all over. But admittedly, I do step on them or kill them with slippers sometimes. When I do a general cleaning when I'm in the mood or have much energy and time, I make it a point to check up on areas in the house which are rather dark and crowded, because I know they are hiding there and laying their eggs there, too. And I do flush their eggs in the toilet bowl, hatched or unhatched. I believe that somehow, I could kill these unborn roaches by drowning them. We rarely buy chemical sprays but it's partly because I don't want to use them regularly as there are studies that these chemicals do some damage to our environment. We refrain from using these specially if our daughter is with us in the house. Also, they are costly or expensive.

I HATE cockroaches!!! I can't live with them at all. It's either me or them. Whenever I see a cockroach on the street, my first reaction is to SCREAM and I'll run off quickly. It's a knee-jerk reaction and I can't help it. My family and many friends have complained that they are usually frightened by my scream rather than the cockroach.

oh gross. yes, i can hardly stand to look at them because i used to have them in apartments in cleveland ohio when the kids were little. they'd come and spray and stuff but never got rid of them. luckily we moved to a better place after a year of that. then i had the big ones at times in florida. there they call them giant ones, Palmetto bugs.
