Self checkout...what do you prefer?

I don't care for the automated self-checkout. I will do it if the lines are long and I only have a handfull of items. But about half the time I have to have help with something, so it's not really saving me that much time I don't think.
What's your view?

I prefer to use them I do find them quicker especially as they have the bags hanging open ready. But if im on my own and a lot of things and have the kids with me its easier to get someone to help with the packing so I can keep an eye on the kids at the same time lol

Oh yea, I hear you there, sometimes kids are a little too good at helping, especially in a situation like that. Because if the items aren't in the bad it messes things up.
Love your avatar, what a cutie!

I love self check out! Best thing they ever invented if you ask me. lol
I don't have to put up with any attitude from cashier's who may have had a bad day or rude customer just before me
I get to ring my own stuff up and put them in bags as I want them, not as they want. I really love the idea of being able to check myself out I do it faster than the cashier sometimes. lol
Now that is funny that I check myself out faster than the cashier, but it is so true. I don't worry about anything, I just ring and bag!

My husband doesn't like them either but personally, I do. When I first used them I made mistakes or it messed up and I'd have to get help but I finally figured out the different sections and I enjoy using them when hubby's not around. CJ even loves scanning the items and putting in the money; makes him feel like a big boy.

Now there's a great thing when your kids enjoy helping you. When mine are a little older I just have them learn to do it. Great idea.

I try no to use them as much as I can unless I only have one or two items that dont have to be weighed or I think I might have some sort of issue with. It seems like if we are going to use an automated line and we have more than just a few items we are waiting forever for the one checker to help us with something and that slows things down a bunch. I figure it is one more way to get one person to do 5 jobs.

I think you're right on the money there!!! And unfortunately it's all about the money, not about us customers.

I have mixed feelings on these things. When our store first got these we used them because there were no lineups at them. Now that people have figured them out they have bigger lineups than the cashiers. You are right on about having to get help at them even when you know what you are doing. Never fails. I like them when they are available and I don't have a complicated order. On the other hand I think in the long run they will put people out of work. Now you just need one cashier per ten or so of these machines instead of a cashier per line. So the jury is still out in my mind.

Wow, I'm surprised the lines are so long for the self-checkout. When I go, there are usually only one person doing the self-checkout per machine. The rest of us are standing in line.

I like self-checkout when I only have a few items. but, they really are not designed for people doing their weekly shopping. Plus, they require constant vigiliance by the store for the difficulties that come up. Which stores don't want to do.

I actually like self-checkout and use it whenever I can. Often, the checker makes a mistake on my purchases. The last time I went, there was a huge mixup that I don't want to go into detail with. Also, self-checkout always seems to be faster unless it's really busy. But, there really isn't any real good reason for me to prefer it, I just do.

I like the self checkouts for when I only have a few items. The ones around here don't have a big area for you to place things like you do with a normal register so if you have a lot of items it's difficult. You have to pull things from the cart and put it in the bags but have them still right there where the bags are, which isn't much room. It makes it difficult. If I only have a handful of items it's not a problem. I find them quick and easy to use. Far faster and easier sometimes then the express lanes.

They're also annoying if you have disability which I do.

I like them when I only have a few items and there are lines at the regular lanes. I only use them if there is no waiting though. I don't like being stuck there while someone is waiting on help from the person who is supposed to be keeping an eye on them, but is never really paying attention.

Hi simplyshawn,I have to agree with you on the self checkout deal. It seems like evrytime I have done it I usually have to wait for the checkout guy or gal to come and help me. I know that's really depressing I will never have a career as a checkout gal. Anyway it wastes to much time. I'd rather have a pro check me out.
See Yah!
