Eighth-Grader Faces Felony Charge for Planting Nuts in Lunch of Allergic Classmate LEXINGTON, Ky. — An eighth-grader in Kentucky is accused of putting peanut butter cookie crumbs in the lunchbox of a classmate with a severe peanut allergy.
So this is a crazy story. There is not much more information in the link I provided. But it basically states that the student with th allergy did not eat the nuts, so no harm was done. Also, they say there was no conflict between the two boys.
So who knows why this happened, but my question is... Why is an 8th grader facing felony charges!!!!!

I'm extremely skeptical about this. It doesn't even mention that the kid did it on purpose. For all we know he coulda been walking by the other kid during lunch munching on a cookie or might have laughed and spit some accidentally when he had a cookie in his mouth. Nothing in the article indicates that it was on purpose.

It seems a little steep to me. I do think they should do something to make him realize how much danger he put that person in. I would think they could come up with something that would have to do with dealing with allergies like that, or some kind of research and visiting a hospital or something. I am sure he was not trying to kill the other kid, he is just a child himself.

According to that it was 'wanton endangerment' which seems to imply the other kid knew the kid with the allergies was allergic. It'd be the same as sticking bleach in someones drink. Just in this case it's peanuts and a lunch box. It could have killed the kid. Now maybe he didn't know the other kid was allergic and heck maybe he didn't even know the crumbs were winding up in there. If either's the case I don't think it's his fault, more the fault of the other kid and his parents for not having the school and students informed he's allergic to something like peanuts.
I mean it's kind of impossible to go an entire day without somehow coming into contact with someone who's had peanuts or peanut butter or the other billion things made from peanuts... So either you make bloody sure people know or you don't get too attached to your kid.

This definitely looks like it could have been a terrible situation, but I don't think that a felony is necessary. It wasn't attempted murder, it was probably just Kid A saying 'Hey, I wonder what would happen if Kid B ate these cookie crumbs.'
It's just a kid's curiosity, there wasn't malicious intent. A Felony is definite overkill.

This kid needs to be disciplined for what he did because he could have killed his classmate but I don't know that he deserves to be charged with a felony.

Wow that is really stupid. At my school we had a kid that also had a deadly allergy to peanuts. It was kinda stupid because then we couldnt have a lot of chocolate bars and PB and J sandwiches .. But you have to feel bad for those kinds of people of course.
