This may seem like a daft questio; olive oil is a "fat", so presumably it is fattening.
But, I was watching TV cook Keith Floyd in hsi Floyd on Italy program the other day, and he drizzled some (high quality) olive oil onto some toasted bread, and stated that you can eat as much olive oil as you want as it it not fattening. Is he right?

Hi gle, I know few good qualities of olive oil. It is good for chapped lips, it mositurize it and give us soft lips. It is also good for intestine health if you use it for long term. If we take one spoon a day-it also prevent and treat indigestion/ulcers. so it true you can eat as much olive oil as you can its really good. enjoy :)

Olive Oil is extremely good for you, nowhere near as fattening as saturated fats and very good for your heart too. My partner and I use olive oil in cooking these days rather than butter or other saturated fats. It won't do any harm to use olive oil in place of butters.

Gaining weight has to do with calories in versus calories out. So, if you really eat a lot of oil and your body doesn't burn all those calories off, then you are going to gain weight. But, oils can help you feel more full, thus reducing your hunger for a longer period. Perhaps this man doesn't eat a lot of other foods and that's how he maintains his weight.
For me, I have a little olive oil now and then and I don't gain weight from it. I don't think it hurts to eat olive oil as it really is healthy for you compared to other oils. But, like everything else, it has to be done in moderation.

As much olive oil as you want? Well that could depend on how much you want. :)
All things in moderation, but extra virgin olive oil is a very healthy fat.
Like some others have pointed out it lowers bad cholesterol and aids in a great many health related problems.
I would advise not to use the refined olive oil even though it is cheaper. Sometimes they use a chemical to make the oil turn loose of the fruit. They do all they can to remove that chemical from the final product, but I'd just as soon not risk taking in yet another chemical, so I pay the extra price for extra virgin.
