I'm sorry but I caught a very bad virus and had to have my hard drive reformatted. I lost 1000 pics from my kodak program...what a bummer. I'm not sure if I got the virus from here or not, but I never had any computer problems until I started coming here, so I'm not going to take any chances. it cost me alot of money to have it fixed. I will miss my friends on here. Thanks all for being helpful and supportive in times of need. You are a wonderful group of people. Hugs! Love, Jane

I have been here about 16 months and never heard of anyone getting a virus from mylot, I find that kinda absurd. there is the possibility I suppose someone could put a harmful website in their profile then you would only get it if you went to that website. There are so many ways one can acquire a virus the only true safe way not to is not get online at all and unplug from your phone line. Also there are so many tools one can use to clean up your system your self before the viruses get so bad that you have to reformat the hard drive.... Also back up back up back up. If you lost that many pictures sounds like it has been awhile since you backed them up.. I am sorry this happened to you but I highly doubt it came from mylot.

Try this Linda: Tools, options, delete internet files and cookies. That might be what you need if you haven't already done that. You wouldn't need a new hardrive, you just need to clean out old temp files, cookies, etc.

Catjane that works as well, but the reason I suggest Ccleaner is that it gets so much more of the useless files out, It does the job so much better than the windows based tools.

Thaks fishmomma. Maybe I'll ask my computer guy if he thinnks it could be this website I caught the virus from. I know I was once told not to use Myway because it had spyware so I dropped it. If he says it's cool, I'll be back! Take care.

oh sorry to hear that, but you might wanna reconsider, coz mylot has never been a dangerous website, you can never get a virus in here, maybe you got that virus in an email attachement from outlook (that is if you use it) or from some websites that you just simply visit. or maybe you have been victimized by that fake windows xp spyware check, that for some reason, even if you have your pop-up blocker turned on, it manages to bypass that. it appears to be genuine looking but i was suspicious coz microsoft doesnt send web surfers pop-ups.they will "scan" your pc for spyware and will ask you to download the software. i downloaded it but i got suspicious coz its only 100kb, so i scanned it and true enough, its a virus. anyway, i just dropped by to assure you that mylot is a safe forum, you must have gotten that virus somewhere else. and always have a real time anti-virus and anti-spyware installed in your pc i suggest you use AVG anti-virus and anti-spyware.

Okay will that shows you how nieve I am because I didn't think we could get viruses from being on myLot. Can we really get viruses from the myLot site? Uh gee really your leaving? I don't know you but I hate to see someone leaving especially if you say you liked it here. I have been here a year and I have had no viruses and I think so many people are still here that have never mentioned a virus so I really think you might of got it from somewhere else even if you can get one here. I think your freinds will be sad to see you go.

I am so sorry to hear that. I have been in Mylot for nearly a year, I think. However, I haven't bad computer problem because of it. So I think the problem is not Mylot. Otherwise other members will experience the same. As to your lost photos. I wonder whether you can recover them by a software called Easy Recovery. I did get back my important information by this software. I love China

OMG sorry to hear that. I really don't think you got the virus from mylot, because everyone here would have gotten it from the site. I get viruses from going to several sites including sites for images, etc. I do have Norton and it catches a lot of them and so my computer is safe. Good Luck in all you do

Do you visit a lot of other sites? Maybe it could be from one of them if you do. I've never had any problems with this site. And I have McAfee and it lights up green (which is good) when I come on this site. Do you have a virus program or firewall? Maybe you should get that if you don't. I hope you decide to stay cause this is a great place.

Disc drives WILL go bad. It is NOT a matter of if, but WHEN. If you don't back up regularly, you are asking for this type of problem. I back up all my data every 2 weeks. At this point this amounts to about 39GB (yes, gigabytes). I have over 50,000 pictures and 2,500 songs etc. I also spread stuff across 4 different computers.

Hope u do not leave. Virus as you said may not be from Mylot, you might have visited other website, or link that move you out of mylot. Anyway, you could next time upload your pic to website like flickr and others for free and have access to them every where, I have my there too. Your technician could have recovered you data for you easily by trying different antivirus programmes, at least one could have code to remove that virus. What ever the case is please do stay.

I been a member here since almost the time this site became a site, I can tell you, that you did not receive a virus from this site. This site is completely safe, the only way you got a virus from this site, is if someone here sent it to you. Sorry you lost all of you stuff. I am going to leave you with this advice, that I learned while in school for computers, BACK UP, BACK UP, BACK UP!!!!

I know, they told me the same thing in computer school too and to tell you the truth I had just gone out and bought some CD-RW disks to put my pics on when the virus happened, but stupid me I forgot, I had already put almost all of them on a disk already. Where's my brain! So it's all good. Computer working well, and I have my pics back....nothing else was lost, so I'm pleased. Thanks. I've decided to stay! By the way love your simpsons pic! I have one of me too!

That's too bad that you have to leave here. Mylot is a good site and I am sorry to hear you are having virus problems because of it. I have a few now and then, a few threats, I don't know if a threat is a virus or not, but every morning I have at least 40 threats and the only place I can think that I pick them up, is here in mylot. But since my AVG quarentines them and heals them or deletes them, I am not worrying about it. I just continue on and know that they will be stopped before they harm my computer.

Hi there! I'm not sure if you'll ever be able to view my response, but I have a couple of suggestions so that you'll stay here! You seem like a really sweet person, and it would be wonderful to keep another wonderful friend from leaving. I know how much it costs to have to fix a computer. I'm very familiar with technology and the issues that can take place. I've also lost pictures and information as you did because I wasn't as careful as I should've been. I've had viruses gallore and had to deal with them as they came. I don't know if your computer is new or old, but a lot of older computer can become easily infected with viruses and awful programs built by hackers to destroy computers and information. What a shame this had to happen to you! My suggestion would be to purchase an anti-virus program. It will probably cost you between $20 and $50 (possibly more depending on what kind you get), but it'll be well worth it, I promise! After that, you'll be set for a year. The following year and every year after that, you'll only have to pay $10 or $15 per month to download unlimited updates for that year. It's actually a super good deal considering all of the computer issues you're avoiding by doing this! You might say, "If I'm buying the computer program to block viruses, why to I have to 'rebuy' it every year?" Great question! This is because they are releasing new (and even more harmful) viruses all the time. It's such a nuisance, I know, but it's worth the money to keep your computer and yourself protected! I hope this information helps you, and that you'll decide to stay! If not, best of luck to you in all of your endeavors. Take care!

Thanks, Jane. I'm so excited to learn that you've decided to stay! I'm very thankful you started this discussion as you've obviously received so many kind and helpful responses. I'm glad you seem to have gotten your computer issues under control. That's very strange that Norton would allow such harmful viruses onto your computer! To tell you the truth, I've never really liked Norton. It always slowed my computer down when I had it installed. (I always used the free trial versions when I bought my computers.) It's a little more expensive too. I'm glad you found a better anti-virus program, and it's even free! I've heard of AVG and should probably look into downloading that onto my computer also. Thanks for your comment and for the wonderful feedback. I'm so glad you're going to stay. Take care and see you around!

Gosh if you go to a lot of sites, you could have gotten the virus from anywhere. You could delete your account here and hit something nasty somewhere else. Best you can really do (other than not go on the web at all) is to make sure you have good virus protection. But there is no guarantee. Anyway, if you do go, good luck!
