how often do you buy clothes for yourself?

I was single for 30 years and have stable a job after College, I was the breadwinner for my parents and the rest of my income is just for me and for my wants! I oftentimes buy clothes every 15 and 30 for myself and end up giving it to my sister when I don't like it anymore. When I got married and jobless, I had a hard time adjusting for myself, lots of priorities, bills and all. I learned to budget my money from my husband and just buying clothes like once every two months! How about you?

Do you know something, I absolutely love clothes, I always have from being a kid. But because of the way that I chose to live my life I could never afford them. Then of course I went on to have 4 children and so now their needs come before mine and even though I am acutally in need of clothes now rather than just wanting to buy them, I still cannot because the kids always need more!!! I would love to just be able to buy a couple of things every month, but by the time the bills are paid and the kids are sorted there is just nothing left over!!

But, this time, honestly, I am trying to control myself since,it will not be fair to my husband if I will demand and demand then I have no income yet! Cheers!

I dont buy clothes for myself that often just when I need it really im not one for shopping just for the sake of it. I prefer to spend my money on my girls so I dont go without but unless I really need something the extra cash goes on their clothes which they are always growing out of!

Hi kezabelle! You remind me of my close officemate, every time we will decide to shop before, she will end up in children's section and very excited to get clothes for her girl! She told me, it's not really what she think of but once you will have a kid, things change and you will always prioritize them.A sign of a good mom indeed!

i only buy clothes when i need them like for instance, now, i could use some new t shirts because my old ones from last year, look well kinda old.
if i see a really good deal (i got some pants at walmart for $4-) i will buy that, or if i go to a thrift store, which i do quite often and see something, i will buy it, but at a regular store? maybe about a couple of time a year.

I agree cher! When I got here, I was very shock with the prices! and ask right away my partner where can I find thrift store! One thing I have to learn in this marriage life is to know how to save for the future! It's totally different when I was still single!

When I had small children I never bought myself anything except the necessities. Now that my children are grown adults I do buy for myself but not much as I still have other bills to pay. I have recently lost 25 lbs. and still dieting and want to lose another 15 lbs. so I had to go out and buy myself some new pants and shorts because all of my old ones were way too big. But I haven't had to buy very many new tops as the weight I lost wasn't from the top part of my body. I hope with the next 15 lbs. I lose, it comes from the top as I am still very big busted and don't like it. I know that is what people younger than me want, big boobs, but I don't because I have always had big ones and I would like them to be smaller so I can fit the more sexy and trendy tops.
So to answer your question I buy myself something new about once a week and I am loving it. It is so nice to have some new clothes as all of my other clothes are probably about 15 years old or more. I have thrown out the old too big jeans and I need more to replace them so I will continue to treat myself once a week and buy something new.

It isn''t as hard as I thought it would be to lose weight. All I did and am doing, is watching my carbs. The first month I cut them all out completely and I lost 15 pounds and was so happy and surprised. But cutting all carbs out of my diet wasn't easy and I am now eating some but am very careful how much i eat of them. Carbs are straight sugar that stays in our bodies and is hard to burn off, so by cutting back on them you will automatically lose weight. Try it and let me know how it goes.

I very rarely buy clothes for myself unless really needed. I will be this week as I have a wedding and an Annivesary celebration to go to next month, but a couple of times a year I will go on a shopping spree and but new shoes, jeans and tops. Years ago before having a family I would but most weekends and up giving most away, I never had a sister but to close friends. These days I will buy clothes for the children rather than for myself and me, my friends and neighbours all swap goodie bags of what we no longer wear with each other and that is a great way of getting something new but without spending and lots of fun too. Ellie :D

Oh you should try it, I am sure it won't be long before you get to know everyone. We have such fun with it rummaging through the bags. Only last week I came home with a pair of black jeans, a worn once pair of Reebok trainers and a nice leather belt oh and a cheeky top for one of my daughters. I suppose it is like a bartering system really but these items are new to me and mine that I give are new to them and any that none of us want or that don't fit we pass along again.
Just to give you a giggle re clothes my daughter wanted me to dye her hair tonight and asked if I had an old t-shirt she could wear I said yes middle draw on right there are two, one white one blue you can put on to wear, they are in the drawer for decorating clothes, well she just fell in love with the white one and said mum no way can I have this! So hence she wore the blue for me to dye her hair in. I would never have thought it would even be something she would wear, just goes to show how much I know about fashion these days eh!

I buy myself new clothes every six months or a year or so. I'm pretty thrifty in that department. It always seems like there are more worthwhile thing to spend the money on like activism or seeking justice.

At the moment I don't buy clothes much for myself as I am on a strict budget. If I buy clothes it is mostly for my children, especially bubs as she is growing bigger by the day, lol. When I start work again next year I probably buy clothes for myself every 1-2 months, depending on whether I see things that i like.

I do not like to spend to much money on clothing and rarely spent money on myself. I bought clothing every once and a while but not very many pairs as I felt that I shouldn't need to buy so much. I look back now and wonder why I did not spend so very much but I am not disappointed that I did save. Most of my money would go to helping my friends as they were spend thrifty and liked to spend their money and not have any for bills. Have a Wonderful day!

Clothes shopping, what is that. LOL I have not bought clothing in so long.
I worked at a job where jeans were acceptable, no need to buy clothes.
Then I went to a job that was business casual, no need to buy clothes.
Now, I am unemployed, No Need to buy clothes.
I did buy a dress from a catalog two years ago, when my husband's son got married, it is a waste of money, I do not have anywhere to wear that dress

I try to buy at least one pair of pants every 2 months and a one or two shirts a month. Usually though I end up buying more for my daughter. I just always think I can do without.

Hello cupid, thanks for that wonderful piece of advise...I am really learning now how to save and budget! and it's quite hard to cope up since I was used to be very free to get anything I want before when I was sinle and got a nice job!

I have two children that are now adults, but when growing up I was always buying for them and never for me. The kids always came first and then me, so I very seldom ever bought myself something new. But sometimes I would have no choice since I need clothes and such too.
Now that my kids are adults and my husband is gone, I left him, I am now buying for me. I am now living for me and when I need something I will just go buy it.

I buy clothess WAY TOO OFTEN! (LOL) That's the majority of what I spend my money on. It's unfortunate because I wish I were better at saving. I have some money in savings, but I'm a lot like you used to be. I'm engaged now, so when my fiance and I get married, I'm sure it'll be a shocker for me not being able to just go out and buy a cute shirt when I see one. I'll have to show a lot more discipline and self control. It'll definitely be a good thing, though. I know it'll help give me incentive to save because I'll want to take care of my hubby and eventually a family. It'll be worth only buying clothes either when I really need them or every few months like you mentioned. It's worth it to me to give that up for my husband. I think you're a very wise woman! You're a great example to me also. Keep up the good work!

LOL - thanks for the tips! I wish I had more money saved for marriage than I do because I know things will change drastically when that happens. It's like all of a sudden I'll have a hubby to care for rather than just myself like I'm used to! (LOL) Thanks for the advice. I'll take anything I can get!
