why do people hack..

last time i was chatting in a yahoo room...which is hackers louge .. a message came i sell bank logins ..cc full info..i was wondering how did that person got all this information.. now people hack other people credit card infomation and they use all the money on the card... am asking why do they do that and how can we stop this...
