My family and I are going to move to a farm and we're going to get a dog when we do. My children are 4 and 1 so we need something that will be good with kids. I've always loved huskies and golden labs. Which would be better for a farm with kids? We're going to have some animals around, like chickens and horses. I'm not sure which way to go!

If you are going to live on a farm a herding dog would probabily be the best to have. A Border Collie or some for of collie mix would most likely fit in well on the farm. You could do a search online for border collie rescue sites in your area. There are alot of loving and loyal pets that need a good home. Good luck

Not to toot my own horn here, but my mother grew up on a farm and my grandparents still run it so I've got a little experience here. We have always had real good luck with labs, though our best dog was a german shepard lab mix. Huskies aren't so much a farm dog as more of a family pack dog. Though both would be good with kids, as long as they are properly trained. I guess it really depends on how you plan to "use" your dog. If he's just for the kids to have and play with, either would be great there. But to be used as say a hunting/family companion, obviously the lab. Or even to work with other animals you have around the farm, I personally think, the lab would suit best there.
