Ok, I am thinking of getting a laptop computer. And the dell magazine came the other day and I was looking and they are doing a thing on Laptop's.
The one I want has the following
Wi-Fi Catcher
Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T2370
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
1GB Memory, 120 GB Hard Drive
CD/DVD Player and Writer
and a Dell 1395 Wireless Mini Card
and if you choose the upgrade you get a webcam built in it. so basically I am looking to my fellow mylot members on if its a good idea to get that, or should I get a custom built one.
my computer usage is for music and internet, I keep having trouble with the virtual memory being too low on the one I am using now. Is there anyway to correct that because this will be used by someone else after I get my laptop.

Moter,
My friend and I were talking about your issues. He is a computer genius, he said to get a Sony Vaio. He said this would be best for you in your situation. Look them up used on ebay. Anything in the last 5 years is fine. He said you should find one for $80 to $120 on up, and run Dynebolic's Linux. You should be good.
Just so you know, he has 29 years in Technical experience and is also a Musician.
However he said $549 for a price on what you are looking at.

Also make sure you can have two hard drives one for a swap file on a different disk and that you can upgrade the Computer.
Good luck to you.

As much as we usually agree, I'm gonna have to say no on this one Ainge. Sony has terrible customer support and they are very slow to fix laptops sent to them for repair. If he were going purely for the best brand and money was not an issue, I'd say IBM/Lenovo is the absolute best. They make the highest quality and the most dependable machines. Their tech support is also rated better than any other PC manufacturer not counting Apple.
It sounds like your friend is a bit detached from the average computer user. Linux is already a difficult OS for average users, but Dynebolic is particularly obscure and he'll have a fair bit of difficulty trying to get support. If he wanted Linux I'd recommend Mepis as it has a great community that's eager to help people.
Also I NEVER recommend buying a used computer unless you already have the skill and know-how to fix it when problems arise. That goes double for laptops which are much more fragile, and VERY prone to abuse since people drop them often. Don't buy a used laptop.

Tskr,
I was talking to my friend who has a Degree in Computer Sciences at this time when I posted this. I did that for a reason. I am far from being a computer person, however I am learning the computer with this thing called a brain.
Eventually maybe one day we will find a middle ground. Thanks for the add.

The price is $549 after the $100 off the price. but they add $150 if you get the upgrade which is a two year in home service, parts and labor, 24/7 phone support and built in webcam along with your choice in color.

Well, if the major concern is about virtual memory then I think you should just upgrade your existing computer with some higher capacity RAM which will kill that virtual memory problem. And if you just decided to get a new laptop anyway then might be this laptop configuration is really very advance and its looking to be a costly here in my country very much. But might be, instead of Dual Core processor if you have a core 2 duo processor then it would be better for you as dual core has a disadvantage that it got heat up very much in a short of time...and everything else works fine for your new laptop.
Have fun!!!

I think Laptop is better than the desktop so i think better to go for the Laptop and the configurations enclosed by you are sufficient but i think you should go for the core 2 duo processor rather than the dual core as it is the latest and the better one i can say. As far as the company is concerned Dell is a good company and laptops are quite efficient and fast so what i think is that you should ask the dealer for the core 2 duo processor laptop keeping the other configurations same that would be far better and will be not even too expensive.
Have a nice day!!
