How to fix Cmos surrogate error

I have installed vista on my laptop and since last week I am getting a message that cmos surrogate has stopped working and needs to close, I close the program and my computer continues to work - so how important is this feature and how can I correct it without re-installing vista.

are you trying to run divx or something concerning large media files?
i think its because you dont have a suitable codec yet,
search the web for the latest downloads.
