I have found a very good trick. Many years ago I had a book on transcendental meditation and I found that if I followed the procedure, I would fall asleep.
Lay on your back with your eyes closed. Concentrate on relaxing each muscle in your body, starting with your head, face, neck, shoulders and working your way down. I try to correspond my breathing, relaxing each muscle as I breathe out. If one of my muscles tightens up again, I go back. By the time I reach my feet I am asleep. It takes some concentration but it works for me every time.

I can't think of nothing, because I concentrate on thinking of nothing and end up thinking of something. I tend to read or watch TV until I am so tired that when I put the book down or turn the TV off I will fall straight asleep.

Hello, thanks for the tips. However, maybe this works for you, but it doesn't work for me. I've tried everything. I've already tried this -- clearing my head of all thoughts and relaxing. It still takes me forever and a day to finally fall asleep. :-(
