How Do You Punish/Reward Your Dog When They've Done Something Good Or Bad? I Give My Puppy Little Dog Treats For Being Good And When She's Been Bad, I Put Her In Like A Time Out For Dogs. I Treat My Puppy Almost Like A Human Child And It Seems To Be Working Rather Well And It's Almost Comical At Times To See Her Look At Me The Way She Does Because It's Funny But I Know She Understands Everything I Say To Her And I Was Just Curious How You Reward Or Punish Your Pets For Good And Bad Behavior?

When either of my two dogs minds, especially during training, they definitely get treats. If they aren't training, sometimes they get a treat, and other times they receive extra affection, smooches, hugs. When they are bad, it depends on what they've done and which dog it is. They don't respond the same. Timeouts often work, though, for both of them. One of mine jumps the fence and runs loose at every opportunity, meaning he has to be chained in the back yard. If he isn't, he's gone and we can't catch him. I haven't yet figured out how to stop that. I can't get onto him when he finally does come home; he's just not smart enough to differentiate between whether he's in trouble for running off or coming home. Even if he did understand, he so enjoys running and marking his territory, I doubt he'd respond anyway. I was able to train him to stop barking so much by rolling up a paper and smacking it against my mind. He didn't like the sound so he minded. When he got a litte older, he tried to push it to see if he could make a game of play, so I smacked him on the rear -- not hard. Now he doesn't carry on his non-stop barking, although I do allow him to bark to his heart's content in the middle of the day. Precious, though, growls and chases the paper. She's much more aggressive. For her, timeout and being locked away from me works wonders for her. She doesn't want to be anywhere I'm not. Even when she was little and got out of the backyard, I found her whining on the front porch. She gets more that way as she ages. She's a black lab. He is a Jack Russell.
