If you know your date is going down hill, can you leave right away or should you hold out for the whole night?

I would just tell them it was nice meeting them and goodnight. I wouldn't stick around for the entire evening. I would not want to put myself through that or lead the other to believe that I am enjoying their company when I am not. I wouldn't be mean about it but straight and to the point.

I just saw an "expert" discussin this topic yesterday. She said that no one is obligated to spend an entire evening with someone they don't want to be with. If you find out early in the date that you'd rather leave, make a tactful excuse and leave. Don't prolong the agony.
