How far do you walk each day?

I try to walk at least 10,000 steps each day, and wear a pedometer to keep me motivated. I also drink a healthy energy drink which gives me a boost, especially when I'm tired. Still, sometimes with all life's other responsibilities it's hard to find time to walk even that in a city. How far do you walk each day, and what do you do to keep motivated?

I think I walk about 8-9 miles a day. I just keep motivated by listening to music while walking. I also try and get my parents to go on walks with me sometimes having company can help keep you motivated. I also just keep telling myself that I have too. I haven't really had a problem trying to stay motivated yet though but I'm also trying to keep it so I'm always motivated. I think it's OK to take a day off sometimes it surely makes the next day feel real easy! hehe

I walk around my community so I use the same route. and I don't walk that far all at once. it's broken up into sets of 40, 30 and 20 minute walks.

Wow, I'm really impressed. That is a long way to walk almost every day! Do you do the same route, or do you go somewhere different and mix it up?

That's excellent. I think it is better for you to do more, shorter walks anyway. Congratulations. You must look and feel great, and be very fit.

Unfortunately, I dont walk (any more than I have to) though my doctor says I should. I am usually on my feet for most of a 12 hour shift at work walking back and to. Its hard to get motivated at home to walk.

Just walking back and forwards at work is walking in my book! I know what you mean though - it's not the same as a good brisk walk - but it makes it very hard to turn around and go for a walk as well. I get much more tired when I have to be on my feet just standing than if I'm walking. Thanks for your post and I hope you find an enjoyable way to follow your doctor's advice. Take care.

i walk about 1 kilometer each day. i try to walk more than this though, however it was just not possible since sometimes i feel already tired from work and is not feeling well to walk anymore.

I know exactly what you mean. I work from home, but it is still tiring. When I worked in an office, I used to try and walk at lunchtime, otherwise I was just too tired when I got home. Thanks for your reply. One kilometre is a good healthy walk.

I don't walk nearly as much as I should. The weather has been so bad here lately that there hasn't been alot of opportunity. I don't live near a mall or anything so the opportunities to walk are limited.I'm going to try to walk for the next few weeks before it gets hot.

That is another factor, definitely - the weather. I don't mind walking in the rain, and it doesn't get really cold where I am, but when it's hot and humid, it's awful. Hope you get some walking in while the weather is okay!
