What you mean DVD-RIP? Is it a video file you downloaded or a video file that you have extracted from a movie DVD?
Have you tried using Windows Media Player to play the video?
I think you may be needing the necessary codecs to play. Try downloading and installing ffdshow codecs - http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=4260&s=50
And see if that helps

A DVD rip can be any of a variety of formats, because the title simply means that the original film was on DVD and was copied and recoded.
It is reasonable to aasume that the likely formats would be avi or divx, so install those codecs on your computer and Windows Media Player should play it. If the file is an unusual format then try to open it with Windows Media Player and when prompted let it try to find the codec on the internet.
The final option is to post the file format to see if anyone recognises it.

Well, all you need to do have a media player and some decoder which can play your dvd-rips. I use one of the greatest media player known as media player classic, And the codec pack I use for them is Combined community codec pack which is free of charge. And you can download it by just searching on net. Have fun!!!
