I was wondering one day.People usually go to the cinema to watch a movie. Most of the time when I asked them,"What is the story about?"They would answer,"I don't know. The effects were good though."Tell me friends.Which movie would you prefer?A movie with good story line or a movie with visual effects?i personally love movie with good story lines.Alright, which movie would you choose:1)Gladiator or 2)Lady In The Water.Let's share our thoughts shall we?I'll go for Gladiator. What about you?

i prefer good storyline, which is getting hard to find these days...most tend to be boring and no storyline. hollywood needs to fire old writers and hire new writers with fresh ideas because they are going downhill these days. they are boring society...

Yeah,it's true.nowadays it's difficult to find for a good story line nowadays. They should put up movies which has good qualities. If you watch "Gridiron Gang",that was a superb movie. It was based on a true story and at the end of the movie they actually showed and interviewed the real person. It was a beautiful movie.Hollywood should produce this kind of movies more than just for the sake of visual effects and high budgets as catch phrases.

i always go for the story. the effects have no significance if the story is bad.

True misshoney.I truly agree with you.It would be like watching a serious "Scary Movie" if there's no story line. For some people they would rather watch a movie which has good visual effects but no story line and some the other way.It doesn't matter a drama or action, thriller or anything else but must have a good story line.

I prefer to go for a storyline more than the effects. Effects dont impress me anymore, nor do they hold my attention very much the way a good storyline does.
As for your question abou which movie... I never seen either of them, but I really want to see Gladiator. I've never even heard of the second one

Hi there,if you are want to watch a movie which has a good story line, you should watch Gladiator.Good story, good acting, good dialogs and good music or soundtrack. No doubt the movie won Oscar.Lady in the water was actually a bedtime story which was converted to a movie. It does have its twist but I love the Gladiator more.Watch Gladiator and enjoy it.Thanks for the response.Really appreciate it.

I try to find a movie with both quality. Very rarely of course. Example: Gladiator and titanic and Forrest Gump both have good story line and visual effect. But these days most of movies with great visual effects usually neglected the story lines. They try to jam tons of action in the movie and try to minimize the story plot. But if I had to chose, I will chose a good story line.

I would go for a good story line,I have not wathced Lady in the water but have watched Gladiator. Of the movies with a good story line,I would certainly choose something like The Bucket List over Gladiator. Special effects are great but I would rather watch a movie that leaves something for me to think about. I prefer a good story to visual entertainment

Good movies, with good story line should have good visuals too. But if to choose from the two, I think good story line is much important than visual effects. As for the two movies, I go for gladiator too, because it you can pick lessons from it. :D

for me its a little of both. what good is a movie without a story line? Now the acting can be horrible as long as the special effects r good im good.

hello farmaz,
hmmmm...
this will be subjective on the type of movie, if the movie is about drama or a real-stories, documentary type or historical, a good story line is better...
but if the movie is a horror one, fantasy movie, an action, based on DC or Marvel comics, best special visual effects is expected.
but nothing best if the two combines, it's like spending your money wisely and watching that movie becomes a commodity...
hahaha...
kidding around.

Gladiator has one of the best story lines, a good production, effect, muscial score. I don't know why we are talking Gladiator and Lady in the water in the same discussion. They do not have any similarity.
I am a shyamalan fan but lady in the water is one of his disappointing movies. The effects is mediocre and so is the story line.

Hello,
I also prefer a good story line to a tremendous special effect. But, it mainly depends on my mood. Sometimes when my minds are relatively calm and is ready to learn new things, I often watch movies with deeper content and concrete subject matter. All I care, then, about the theme, finishing and acting. But, when I am looking for a total entertainment, I need some special effects too. Like action movies, they always gives you a testosterone boost. So it highly depends on the mood I have right at that time. But, mostly I would go for a good story line.
Thanks for starting such an interesting discussion
Take care
