I also have AVG and it's pretty good. It really does update itself every day. Now, I don't know if it's the best in the world because I haven't used or tried all that many free anti virus programs. But, I know this one keeps my computer adequately protected.

I do use AVG antivirus. Previoulsy I used many antivirus programs in my desktop. Later when I purchased my Laptop, I started using AVG antivirus just because its light weight and easy to use. We get daily updates for this and even upto date. Its free to use most importantly. I recommend AVG to you if prefering for free antivirus. cheers!

There is not one AV system - commercial or freeware - that can accurately and dependably secure your system(s) from all known current, emerging, and future threats for a variety of reasons. The best a system can do is 95%. That said, you are better off employing an intelligent layer of protection then running any system that slows down your system.
Here is my basic setup. Please keep in mind that I have used computers since the late 70's and have been an freelance - and sometimes "professional" - onsite technician since the 80's.
1. Employ a sandbox - Sandboxie is GREAT
2. Run NOTHING resident; therefore, no slow downs
3. Inoculate the system from threats - Spybot, Spyware Balster, etc.
4. Keep your products updated
I use the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows ("UBCD") for an all around, general purpose tech solution and have had excellent results with it. This freeware ISO combines popular freeware utils onto a single bootable CD that can be used to fix Windows without Windows running... a Godsend for the tech world! Using the UBCD, I successfully removed more than 30,000 strains of a multitude of viruses from a client's computer - yes, a SINGLE computer - by going back and forth between the included packages.
Packages include: SpyBot, Adaware, Web Cureit, Stinger, etc. Again, not any one package can fix or prevent everything so a multilayered protection is your best defense. For the record, I do not run ANY AV program on my personal systems, relying solely on the details provided herein, and have ZERO problems even after visiting "risky" sites.

whenever u go for any antivirus, see that it not block the files with viruses but it also clear it. i am using Kaspersky. I doesnt slow ur system and protects u from most of the threats as well. Then there is one other good antivirus bitdefender. Try installing trail version and find which suits ur purpose.

Well, all I know a veyr reputed computer antivirus is AVG, its absolutely free of charge and you don't need to worry about expiring as its completely free, its updates are free and its download is free of charge too. So better if you just change your existing antivirus to AVG which keeps your computer stay away from viruses too like my computer.
Have fun!!!

I think Ariva Anti-vir is the best. You can get it from www.free-av.com It's great. You needn't know anything about viruses. And AVG is also a good software.
