Lots of us have neck and shoulder pain especially sitting over a computer all day long. Though some pain will come simply out of nowhere must pain builds up over time. If you are at the computer try not to crook your neck keep it in a neutral position, If you work on a phone or talk on the phone a lot then do not crook your neck when doing it. Prolonged straining on the neck will cause pain, when reading sit upright and make sure your back is straight, Avoid high heels, When driving or watching tv keep a straight posture, avoid, lifting heavy objects, and always bend at the knees when picking things up if you can, ( I can't bend) Ladies do not carry heavy purses around, this will cause neck and back pain and shoulder pain too. Tips come from Harvard Medical School but I don't have a url for it. Do you suffer from neck and shoulder pain, have you noticed it got worse through the years or worse since you have been spending time here mylotting?

With my first two children I had what they called a spinal for the delivery. With my 2nd it was all a rush job and my son was trying to get here before they were ready and some how the stuff settled in my neck. I had a horrible headache and had to lay flat for a week so it would not travel further. Ever since then I could not even wear a sun dress or anything that tied around the neck, could not even carry my purse on my shoulder and many things I should not have done that would trigger a horrible headache. Over the years it has gotten some better.

I have neck pain but I have never been diagnosed with anything about it though. I was sick about a month or so ago and it affected my neck alot. I could not hardly sit here and type. I think typing alot in Mylot does affect how your neck and your body feels, especially if you work with it for many hours.

Hello winterose! Thanks for the advises really. We all need to worry about our health nowadays as the computers are becoming a more integrated part of our lives after all. Personally, I am having some health problems but can't really say they are all because of my computer but may also be because of some other stuff I do in my daily life. I sometimes have a neck pain which is really awful. Especially a few years ago when I was at high school, I had a neck pain which almost made me cry because of it. I tried moving my head backwards, right left and forward but nothing worked. After a few days it was a little better though. The other thing that annoys me most is back pain. My back pains most of the times. As I am sitting in front of the computer or sometimes when I get up from my bed. I really can't understand why my back would pain when I get up and it is really not the best start to a day. In my high school years, also I had a back pain, which even prevented my walking! I was only able to walk very slowly and carefully, and if the pain came I would suddenly need the support of my friends or I would fall down. Fortunately, that was over a few days later too. Sometimes I really get angry to myself when I notice I don't see a doctor for many things. I really should change before something permanent occurs. All the best wishes.

yes i occassionally feel pain in my neck and shoulders. its really because of a number of things. one of the main culprits causing the pain is the improper posture that i have. its not really bothersome though. i can still mange to continue doing my work. when there's pain though, i just take short breaks and do some exercises to alleviate the pain. i also put hot/cold compress. sometimes i get a massage though when the pain is unbearable.

So far, i haven't suffered from this. Actually I do get some tips to ease neck and shoulder pain. Tip1 when at the computer or desk, just as lots of myLotters do Keep head balance directly over spine as much as possible. Setting chair height so both feet rest on the ground, and sitting wiht buttocks far back in the chair, using a small pillow to support lower back if needed. Tip 2 if spending a lot of time on the phone/ cell phone, then try to avoid leaning the head on one side. A headset or speakerphone is a good option to keep the head in a neutral position for hands-free talking.

Tip3 Reading at home If sitting in a chair, try to maitain an upright posture. Hold the book so that don't have to lean down or forward to see it. A pillow on the lap may help as well. Or lie on your side with neck straight and hold the book in front of you. Tips 4 Walking Avoid high heel

The only reason why i can afford to go, it's because my hubby's insurance covers a part of it. If not, i'd be left with my aches and pains cuz we couldn't afford it.

Well I have neck, shoulder and upper back pain all the time due to injuries to those areas. Those are good tips for people to try and prevent problems or to try not to make them worse. I have to have the monitor at certain heights to me otherwise it makes it worse. I try not to look at the keyboard so that I'm not looking down since this irritates it. I haven't been able to wear high heels in years due to hip and back damage. I'd love to be able to again. Then again I'd love to be able to lift semi-heavy objects again or to wear a purse on my shoulder for more then a few minutes. The strap hurts on my shoulder and mine isn't that heavy. Or just be able to wash my hair without pain My pain has gotten worse with the years. Of course that is to be expected I guess. It would be nice if instead it got better but that doesn't seem to be an option to me. I just try to make sure I don't make it worse or to irritate it.

Back in 97, I had a really bad ATV accident. My sister and I hit a wet spot of mud, and it flipped. I landed on my back on sharp rocks and my sister stayed with the ATV, since her leg was still connected to the foot pedal. For a short time I couldn't move at all, my sister came to me and grabbed my hand and yanked me onto my feet and said come on it's leaking gas. My doctor said I missed living in a wheel chair for life by 5 inches. Well, now I don't really have neck and shoulder pain. My lower back kills me all the time. What really stinks, I can't stand for long periods of time without being in serious pain. So with my lower back, and a bad right knee, I don't see myself being able to get a job, because nearly every single one requires you to be on your feet for majority of the time your working.

Hi winterose. You know you are absolutely right. Since starting mylotting, I do have these pains plus back pain also. I am starting to wonder whether it is worth sitting hours after hours doing what we love most, mylotting. Not only those pains but my visions are also getting blurry sometimes. Too much mylotting, perhaps?

you should get up every now and then, walk around the block or the house or something that will change the position and possibly help you to avoid the neck strain.

I always have neck and shoulder pain because my work need a computer. I need check e-mails, make documents for whole days, since I'm very busy everyday, I always forgot to relax myself. But in order to keep my body healthy, I will remind myself to relax one time during one or two hours and do some sports during the weekend, I think these efforts can help me to reduce painful.

winterose I am having a pain in the middleof my back that I have never had before.I have been here for hours typing and then realized I needed to fix my dinner.but on the way to the kitchen I got this humongous pain in the middle of my back and hurt,I have never had anything like this before.Either Ihave a muscle spasm or something is out of place. It seems to be easing up as I am sitting quite straight but when I touch the middle of my back its actually quite sore. I have never had back aches, ache in my bad shoulder yes but not a back ache. My aches have got worse since I have done so much typing and too I am no spring chicken either. I was going to make my daily quota but am not sure now as I do not dare move now that I am comfortable again. I will move slowly andcarefully now.

Since I am working in the office and I have to face the computer for a long time everyday. Sometimes I will have shoulder pain. I will feel better after I have a massage. Usually I will go to have a facial treatment once for a week or two weeks. And they will massage my head, neck and shoulder. That's so comfortable. I love China

that's right, some pain will come simply out of nowhere. Autually,I always keep sitting by computer for more than 13hours,so neck, shoulder ,back, and eyes pain brings me lots of headache. Although I try to make activity from time to time, pain will not be alleviated. Does anyone here do the massage?Does it work on our pain? Please advise several kinds of massage to us for alleviating our pain.

Most of my pains are from fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and arthritis. But I have noticed that how (and how long) I sit at the computer makes a big difference in my "usual" pains.
