I wanna earn thru blog

I wanna be a blogger and earn money thru it. I just dont know how to start. Ive heard alot of people making money, i wish i can be one of them.
Does anyone here who have a blog that earns? Can you give me some tips on how to make it, on the blogger world?
Is it okay to start on a free blogging website?

I've been trying to do all of that too but I haven't had much luck. It seems that the best way to earn through a blog is to get a lot of traffic first, then participate in those programs. The key to big blog earning is traffic, which I apparently lack. There are a lot of info on how to build traffic but I haven't found any that really works for me.
