What would your ideal house look like?

If you could live anywhere, buy any kind of house, decorate any way you wish, and money were no object, what would your house look like?
For me, I enjoy green areas, so I would choose to live somewhere where there was a lot of bright green trees and babbling brooks. Washington and Oregon currently head up that list, because they are places I've been and enjoyed immensely.
I don't want a house that's too terribly big, but I would like my kids to each have their own room, and I have a thing for big kitchens. Also, because I love animals so much, I would love to have a really big back yard, completely fenced in, so I could have a couple dogs and still have room for the kids to have their swing set, and grow a little garden. I also wouldn't be opposed to having a pool. It would be an easy way for my lazy butt to get in some enjoyable daily exercise. :)
As for the decoration? I'm a bit weird. I want every room of the house to have a completely different color scheme and theme to it. That way, when I walk from room to room, it's almost as if I'm in a different location. I feel this would alleviate boredom, and prevent me from doing my usual rearranging everything every other week or so.
What about you? What kind of living situation would best suit who you are and what life you are striving for?

Oh, gosh, the roomie and I "daydream" about the perfect house.
It would have to be big. 3 suites if not 4, a 2 story library or maybe 3 with a wood sprial staircase (not that we'd ever use it.) A media room with large screen and wall to wall shelves for the tapes/dvds. An elevator, a least one floor cat free, a "mother-in-law" cottage, a whole outside area for the cats with access from the cat areas. Spa tubs, seperate showers with benches, toilets with heated seats, bidet and self opening/closing seats, and flush on the floor.

Well, we have about 10 cats that are friendly, 6 of those are mostly indoor. Then, we have about 15 that are technically feral, but they sure do eat at our house more often then not. lol.
Two of those feral cats had kittens on our porch just a few weeks ago. So, the last count was about 21 that regularly hang out in our house or on our porch, but we have since lost a few, and gained others. Since the birth of the kittens though, I'm sure we've gone up in numbers (Luckily, my sister has claimed one of the new babies).
And, a few of those are kittens who were previously abandoned, from feral cats in the cat colony in the alleyway behind our house, that I found and couldn't help but rescue. :( Poor babies.

LOVE the description of the library!!! One of those nice big libraries chalk full of books that you'll never live long enough to read through, and you'll likely forget half of them are even there. With gigantic windows, for plenty of natural light, and that beautiful spiraling staircase!
I'd definitely need a cat area around my house too. I've quickly and early (in life) become known as the crazy cat lady. My friends refer to my house as "The Temple of Bast". LOL.

It is a great thing to think about. I think about it all the time, especially when I'm stressed out, or need inspiration. I can see it in my head, though it occasionally changes, as I think of new or different things (sometimes even different things, entirely dependent on my mood at the time).

My ideal house would be on the beach, it would have alot of windows so I could look out and see the water, It would have a deck all the way around it so I could sit outdoors and just relax and enjoy the beautiful senery at all times.I love the beach, I love taking long strolls on the beach, i love swimming, this way I would have no more need for my own pool, no maintanence on that.I would not want a real lage house either about 3 bedrooms, but lots of large rooms and plenty of storage.

That sounds really peaceful! I'm not big on the beach during the day (I sunburn too easily to see much beauty in it anymore, lol). But, I do love the beach at night. The sounds of the waves... the moonlight glistening off the darkened water... the sound of the waves gently crashing on the shore... Just breathtaking.

Oh, if you could hear my boyfriend and I go on about our ideal home/homes!
We both have very eclectic tastes, so it's hard to say the one ideal home, or one that doesn't sort of contradict itself.
I'd absolutely love to live in a foresty, wild kind of environment. A place where pixies and fairies would be comfortable and happy, because obviously that would make it a happy place =P
But I wouldn't want to live in too remote of an area.
I'd love something that looks kind of story-book-cottage but with a much more modern feel inside.
High ceilings, minimalist modern design and definitely a big kitchen, stainless steel appliances.
I'm into different colour schemes and/or feature walls in each room, and I'd definitely want to have a lot of art on the walls.
I love antiques, so it probably would be an odd mix of interior design, modern-looking filled with old furniture and artefacts, but that would suit me fine =P
The one thing that is a must, is at least one massive, old tree. A beautiful fig or Ghost Gum or something - truly magical.
*dreams*
*wishes us both luck*
=D
Have a great day!

I don't see anything wrong with a home that contradicts itself, as long as you're both happy with it. I can relate with wanting to live in a kid of enchanted feeling forest. Perhaps a clearing in a magical looking place, the kind that would be used to film "Legend".
You have a great day too hun! And, definitely, good luck!

I would like my house to be something out from the Japanese manga. If you have seen the Grudge starred by Sarah Michelle Gellar (did I spelled her name right?), that's the style of house that I want. I do not want big houses; remember, the bigger the house the greater your electric bills.

That was an interesting house, though I didn't get through much of the movie when I watched it, as I was really busy around my own house, lol.
And, yes, I think you spelled her name right.

I love one reading room facing the sea or lake, boundless one, and there's a huge windown through which coming the sunshine. And i'd like to sit on the floor and open a book. listen to the music. When i'm tired, i can enjoy the scenery. I want one of my room full of clothes, shoes, costemtics, and different places that designed to put different types. I also want a room to entertain, dance, sing, watch films. One small bedroom, everything was put in order, cute dolls, lovely flowers, windbell,Chinese tie and some other DIYs.My bedroom should be painted pink, but reading room can be some kind blue, yellow or green, whatever color that make me feel the fresh air and scenery.
I'll add if i come up with sth new. Can't think of all that i want in a time.

I would like a really small and neat house somewhere on the outskirts of the city. It would be painted white with a red roof and a small patch of garden encircling it. I would have the garage attached to the house so that the mezzanine floor would be my den. The ground floor would only have the sitting room, the kitchen & dining area (no walls between them) and a toilet. The first floor would have two bedrooms with adjoining balconies and the toilets. The boundary wall would be of thick shrubs and ideally I would like a wicket gate too. The walls of the toilet would be of translucent glass and would also like the roof of my bedroom to be made sliding so that I can star-gaze at night. I would also plant a flowering climber beside the entrance and connect to the balconies on the first floor. The garden would have seasonal flowering plants in the front and seasonal veggies in the back. Inside decoration would have to be very basic and simple, as per necessity really.
If the above is not possible (it wont be, I know) I would like a tree house then (like Tarzan and Jane). But that wont be possible either. So I would really have to make do with this concrete cage I am in right now.

That sounds very inviting. By "a bathroom like the one in the hotel", what do you mean? You mean, with fresh towels and mini shampoos, etc.? Or, do you mean a specific kind of bathroom that you've seen in a hotel?

I would have a house that is on a hill and when you look out you see the ocean. It would be a house that would have long windows and the windows would be all around the house. My house would be a small house on one floor. There would be a bedroom, which would have a big picture window in it facing the ocean. My kitchen would have cabinents all around and I would have a big place in the middle for preparing the food and cooking it. Off to the side would be a kitchen corner nook for me and my husband to eat our meals. The living room would be medium and in it would be a lounging chair and a recliner. There also would be a big soft sofa. There would be coffee tables on both sides of it. There would be a porch that circled the house and there would be flowers all around on the porch. In my yard I would have several rose bushes of different colors planted. I also would have a snowball bush. I would have a couple of trees at different places around the house. There would be no television in this house. I also would have another smaller house that would have my hot tub, sauna and a massaging table. This is the kind of house and place that I have fantazized about.

If I ever come into the money to build a house like that it will go from being a dream into a reality. I don't see it coming true but I am the kind of person who looks at it as anything can happen.

hi pangeacat,
I'm not sure if you ever watched or watch the Sopranos? I dream of having a home that is exactly like Tony Soprano's house. It's beautiful!!!
If I had no worries about money or won a lottery I would contact HBO and offer them an amount for their blueprint of the soprano's house.

My ideal home would nt be too remote...but slightly away from other houses..not too big..four bedrroms at the most...and some garden..but not oodles...I would like a big kitchen..mine is reasonable at the mo..but id like a kitchen that i could get a couple of armchairs in....we had a kitchen once before where we has a small couch in there..it was a great sitting area.....then i would like quite a large lounge...now mine is tiny here at the mo...and sometimes i feel that we are tripping over each other..Hubby says..and probably quite rightly so..that the house is inexpensive to run..and is big enough for the two of us....my colour scheme would be pale...pastel shades all the way through....I like my bits an pieces...so it wouldnt be minimal....OH...and ive love to have a rayburn again.....one large bedrrom would be fine..and three smaller ones....and just anormal bathroom...woth a power shower...

My ideal house should be first located somewhere near in the city.
I want to have 2 storey house or Bungalow house. It should have a small library on where I can store all my DVD and books collections there. I plan to buy books for my future kids so that they can have references while studying.
Have a small garden with seesaw and swing. And garage for the car. 1 Master bedroom for my husband and me, separate rooms for the kids and 1 guest room.
Lastly, I want to have a rooftop for parties and other things there. lolz.
That is it. :)

I like fresh air and privacy, so out in the countryside somewhere (but within reasonable travel time of a city, so I can still see my friends and go to the theatre etc). Reasonable sized grounds with grass, a bit of woodland and maybe a small lake so I could watch the wildlife.
I hate housework, so I wouldn't want the house to be too big. Decoration wouldn't be anything too fancy, like those overdone stately homes that you see all over the place - probably just wood panelling with pictures. I like to read, so a decent-sized library would be necessary, and I also like watching classic science fiction and horror films, so a private cinema would be nice - I'd combine the two if possible, and also put them underground so that they make up part of my bomb shelter (you never know what the future's going to bring). I like gadgets, so there'd be things like secret passages, TV sets that pop out of concealed cupboards, maybe my chair in my living room would lower me down into the library/cinema/bomb shelter at the touch of a button - Gerry Anderson stuff. ;-)

That sounds really fun! I'd want a bomb shelter too, preferably quite deep underground. I'm a bit paranoid like that.

Well, I'm quite addicted to Japan so there's no doubt that I would want a Japanese inspired home. It wouldn't be too big either, but maybe a little big. Maybe a 3-storey house would be good. The first floor would consist of a dining room, a kitchen, the living room, and a washroom. The second room would consist of a library, a family room, a bar (near the family room), the top floor would consist of rooms,. My room would have a walk-in closet. wooo! I would love to have that kind of house someday! ^_^

I like bigger house. My ideal house should have enough rooms. And I love a big kitchen as I really enjoy cooking. If I have a big kitchen, I will cook better. Besides, my ideal house should have a garden and a swimming pool. That will be nice for me and my child.
I love China

If possible, i will want my ideal house to be near the seas or waters.. And it's to be a single house on its own, not joint to the neighbouring houses..
It need not be too big, just 2 storeys high with the ground floor as living room and kitchen area.. While the upper storey will have 7 rooms, 1 room each for my family members, 1 recreation room, 1 gym room and 1 study room.. hehe ^_^
ANd my rooftop, i will have a swimming pool whereby i can tann and swim at the same time..

What an enjoyable thread to read! I love all the ideas people have contributed!
My ideal house would be in Ohio, not too far away from the small city I live in but about two fenced acres for my dogs--their area would have a 6' high fence because Cookie has jumped my 4' fence before.
Nice screened in porch and a deck outside of that for a grill and stuff. House would get energy from solar and wind. Big finished basement with lots of light and special storage for emergency supplies. Pantry, too, with a freezer. Back-up generator kicks in when electricity goes off. One complete bedroom in the basement separate from the family/rec area.
I'd have a bedroom/bath on the first floor for Mom, plenty of windows, skylights wherever I could get them. I like light!! I'd like to have the paint that's being developed that allows you to change colors with a control. The upstairs bath would have a nice, big tub to soak in plus a shower.
I'd want a music studio that was completely soundproof so I could practice anytime I wanted without fear of being embarrassed by my meager chops.
That's about all I'd want in a house, besides a few nice pieces of furniture. I moved a year ago into my first house, I love it, but I'm still using a lot of boxes for end tables and such!

I would like my house to have a relaxed and cozy atmosphere. there would be small trees in he front yard with cobblestones along the pathway. the house woulde be painted in pastel colors with jut a bit of intense color highlights like maroon or navy blue. There would a small terrace with a table and some chairs for lounging. The interiors would generally be painted cream or off-white. and here would be lots of roses in the front yard.
