If you could be anything in the world, what would you be?

For me, this is a tough question. I have such difficulty figuring out what I "want to be when I grow up." But, after much deliberation, I think I'd like being an anthropologist (and, even more specifically, an Egyptologist) most. Of course, a child psychologist and/or professional fiction author also head up the list. As does teacher, come to think of it. Okay, fine, so maybe I still have some narrowing down to do! How about you? Do you have a clear idea what you'd most like to do, if you could do anything?

Well, a professional (science) fiction writer would probably head my list, but a job that I don't think I would've ever dreamed of as a child is one that I might have really enjoyed would be either a typographic map maker or a geologist. I really think I'd've enjoyed either or both of those jobs.

I've been trying to write more science fiction lately. It's one of my absolute favorite genres (the others being closely related; fantasy and horror). I just can't seem to get on the ball with a good story line that I find interesting enough to write about. I think one of my main problems is that all the stories I can think of are around novella length, which is highly unpublishable. *sigh* One of these days though! One of these days, I AM going to finish the two books I have currently in production and I AM going to have them published, one way or another! *crossing fingers, knock on wood* Good luck to both of us on that! Geology and typography sounds interesting. I don't think that I could do it, but if you're inclined to that kind of work, that must be terribly interesting. And, hey, "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."

I didn't discover this love for geology until about 20 years ago - and I'm in my 50's now and don't think I could do it, but I like reading about it. I went to an airshow once and got a ride on a small plane, it was just high enough that I could almost see those typographic rings on the ground - well, Texas is good for that kind of viewing. Oh well, I'm now semi-retired - heck - some people go back to college and become lawyers, wish I could afford to go back....

My dream will always be a Private Detective, though at this point it may be cheaper for me just to go to a racing college and be a racer when I "grow up". I'm already an artist, or so people tell me, so I figure that's something I can always fall back on in case of the two careers mentioned above, don't work out so well.
