Thought Spring had arrived in Manitoba...N-0-T!!!! Weather where you are?

Hi again...
On Saturday of last week David and I were enjoying balmy temperatures and working in the garden. We thought Spring had arrived with our perennial plants breaking dormancy and ladybugs appearing on plants...ah yes...Spring isn't it grand!!!Then before going to bed we checked the weather and were surprised to hear that in the last week of April a severe winter storm was about to hit. We awoke this morning to see that it had, indeed snowed...AGAIN! Just when we thought we had seen the last of blustery, cold weather.
So for all of you who are enjoying warm temperatures and planting your petunias or whatever else you plant (if you do) consider yourself fortunate. Those of you around the world who do not experience snow in April I have included a photo from my office window of our snow covered...not so green backyard. (Sigh)
Care to give me an update of weather where you are? Come on all of you in warm, sunny climates...remind me how it feels...please!
Oh well it will probably melt fast (I hope) and then I can post a photo of the lush green of our gorgeous summers...whenever this one gets here.

New York is absolutely beautiful these past few days. Very unreal, 70's and 80's weather. I am waiting to plant though, I am not trusting the weather for such luxuries as of yet.

Sounds as though you are having an unusual Spring...70's and 80's are pretty warm for your neck of the woods at this time of year. I can appreciate what it feels unreal. Hopefully it will hold. We thought winter was behind us...then SURPRISE...Mother Nature pulled one of her 'gotcha' again.
Do you do much planting? Do you have garden or balcony type planting? We are avid gardeners. I have posted a comparative photo for you to see the difference between our winter/summer backyards. I took it through the screen so the image is not as sharp as it would normally be...but it gives you a feel for the contrast.
Enjoy your balmy weather!

Hi again...
Good to hear from you again. Since our heart to hearts and warm, open exchanges I find myself wondering how things are going with you. I haven't been here for 5 days and I saw our E-Mail address and thought if I don't hear...I will send a message.
If you don't mind me asking...how old is your little girl? I think she is a very fortunate child to have a mommy who is introducing her into what you say...and I agree with...gardening is freeing to the soul. I love the space David and have created...it is our little piece of Manitoba heaven and our sacred space.
We spend a lot of time out there and eat a lot of our meals on the deck. I have included another photo.
Take good care of yourself and your sweet child and enjoy your planting. We will be in touch.
Hugs to you my friend

Raia,
Have not planted yet. We are lucky enough to have a back yard. A rare gift here. I will be planting seeds with my daughter this weekend, I dared not to before the fear of a last frost. We are in the 90's already.
What a difference in the yard, wow. I love to garden, very freeing of the soul.
Blessings,

Hi Raia,
For someone like me who doesn't experience any snow here in this tropical climate, a snow scenery like the one you've shared can be very inviting. I've always wished to go on a holiday abroad where I experience some snow. The closest I've come to that was way back in 1981 when I went up to Mount Titlis in Switzerland which is at 10,000 ft altitude. My wife hasn't had the opportunity yet, and so I told her we will make a trip to Austria or Switzerland one day soon. But I know for those who have to brave snowing conditions in the locations they live or work, where temperatures can be sub-zero, it can be damp and miserable.
Here in sunny Singapore, we get warm to hot sun almost the whole year round. Mostly, the temperatures hover between 28 degrees and 33 degrees Celsius. In hot months, it can go up to 35 degrees and that can be quite burning at mid-day. What is not so comfortable sometimes is the humidity, because when it is high, we get more sweaty too. At times, we do get the occasional rain, sometimes with lightning and thunder. We have the monsoons at certain times of the year and these bring more rain, but the upside of it is that rain helps moderate the temperature and it gets more bearable for us. Trees, plants and shrubs grow whole year round, and so it makes the whole place quite green despite lots of buildings around in our very densely populated city state. I have enclosed a picture taken from one of my apartment windows of the surrounding area. I am surrounded by mostly two and three storey houses on one side, and the nearby sea on the other side.~ Victor

Hi Victor...how good to be back and chatting with valued friends like you again. I am still somewhat amazed at how much I miss the special connections I have made here when 'life happens' and I am away for awhile. This community and the people within it truly do remind me that 'absence does make the heart grow fonder.' When I am back and connecting with on-line pals here I feel deeply grateful to be a part Mylot. As I mentioned I am happy that you made your desired blue star status...as I said in my response...you always were that to me.
Anyway, back to the weather. I truly enjoy this topic and that is why I periodically post them. Season changes here are very distinct and I like to offer them to those who live in different climates. Secondly hearing friends describe their locales adds a more personal touch my understanding of them.
I am glad you liked the snow scene I have included another one of the icicles that formed on our deck and chairs after the storm. They are a regular part of winter life here.
When I hear about your year round temperatures it is difficult for my mind to grasp what it would be like to enjoy lush gardens and greenery all year. On one level it holds appeal..on another I rather like the contrasts within our cycles here. The ideal would be if our winters were a month or two shorter...and Spring came at the end of February or early March. Oh well...as the prayer of serenity says Canadians in our area live with an acceptance of what cannot be changed and in that comes inner peace.
Anyway, always good to chat and share with you. We will be doing more of it for awhile. I am caught up with work and the snow is keeping us inside. See there is always good in every situation...if it was balmier outside I'd be in the garden and not having a chance to dialog on Mylot. Everything is an exchange...right?
Warm regards from chilly Manitoba!

Hey Raia:)
well as you know i am at israel, and i wish it was winter here now.
you won't believe what weather we've got here.
it is so hot here in the past week, that most people do not leave their houses.
and those who do, take alote of water with them so they won't get dehydrated.
it is about 40 degrees here.
i must say that i had a holiday vacation this week, and like most of the people i stayed at home/ went to friend's houses.

Hello again Liranlgo...
I haven't been here as much the past couple of months and I really miss this community and the valued connections of have with people like you. I appreciate the way you keep in touch and drop by. Every time I hear of news in your country you come to mind and I cannot help but wonder how you and your loved ones are doing.
Your comments to this discussion are really appreciated because it helps to re-frame things for me. What you describe is a huge heads up. Yes, a winter storm is mildly annoying but nothing compared to the real discomfort and health risks intense heat can bring. So thanks for reminding me that snow is not so bad compared to what you are experiencing there.
I hope you enjoy your time off even in the fact of the sweltering heat.
Warm and caring regards,
Raia

Hi Raja, I heard all about the snow in western Canada, it was hard to believe. I thought that it was west of manatoba, more in Alberta. The snow is pretty much gone here now, and it's been sunny fot the past four days. The temperature hasn't been much above 10 degrees, so it isn't that great yet. I' sure you will soon be enjoying better weather. Blessings.

Well being that I am commenting a week after the fact the weather has improved a lot. Most of the snow from the storm is gone although it is still chilly here and we haven't turned our heat off yet.
It was a little warmer today and I did some pruning on the rose bushes and more yard work. Your wish for better weather for us came true...it is better alright. Hope you are enjoying Spring out East.

Awww I'm sorry hun! I hope it melts fast for you. Sheesh, I hope for some odd reason we don't get it in the states. It has been gorgeous here in Illinois. I don't like tempting mother nature though so I will stop talking about it now.

There you are...my sweet friend...sending me warm fuzzy regards...thank you!
I hope yo don't get it either...we have enough of it for half the country.
I have included a photo of a pathetic looking flower display I put out there on the weekend. Thankfully the flowers are artificial...so they will survive...and so will we. "Tobins" as some people call Manitoba-ins are a tough bunch and this too shall pass.... Hopefully soon.

Hi katsmeow1213...
I love cats...we have five...so there is a lot of 'meowing' in our house. (smiles.)
Cute baby on your Avatar as well.
Thanks for you NY weather update. Another gal from your area was saying that it felt a little surreal. Whether it is or not the balminess sounds delightful after what we are experiencing here. Not much incentive to go out...slippery...windy...cold.
My suggestion...stay where you are you've got in made...not in the shade...but in the sun. ...enjoy!

Hi again..
Good to hear from you. I wondered how things were where you are...and now I know. Every time I post a weather discussion fellow Canadians are in the back of my mind. I will make a mental note you are a fortunate Canadian to be able to get away from the long, dark, cold winters.
Davida and I love the Southwest...especially the Moab,Utah area. It is our intention to visit Arizona next trip down there. Are you anywhere near Sedona? I have heard it is somewhat of a 'tourist trap' with a New-Agey flavor to it. If you have been there what is your take on it? If not do you know what the locals think of the area? Just curious.
Thanks for your input and update. Hope the weather is to your liking when you come back 'home.'
Cheers,

Thanks for your caring empathy...hugs to you for that! I am sure it will pass fairly quickly and we'll be back out in the yard again soon. It was such a radical change after the balmy temps we had on Saturday. Working in short sleeves and needing sun screen to pulling out the winter boots, scarves and mitts again. Good thing I hadn't put them away yet. Don't think I will for awhile...maybe June???? Just kidding!
Good to be back...thanks for always dropping by.

You could well be right my friend...although I hope not. We went shopping today and heard that it is supposed to go down to minus 8 tonight..then be cold for a couple more days...and then warm up. At this point I am going to take a wait and see attitude.
Did you see the amount of snow in the photo with the discussion? It was taken from my office window. The view is lovely when everything is lush and green...not very inviting right now. You can see the blankets and cushions on the swing and chairs left from Saturday when we enjoyed a fire on a pleasant evening. You might like the to see the two large wolves we have on either side of the pond. If you go back to the first page I posted a shot of the yard through the screen...in the summer...just to show the contrast between then and now. Someday I hope to see you and me sitting out there with our shades...sharing a beverage and chatting our faces off in our garden. The guest room awaits....ready for when you are!
I have included another wolf photo I took of some of ours while playing around with settings on the new camera. Hope you like it being the wolf gals we are.
Hugs to you...talk soon.

Hello my friend...
Good to be back in touch. We haven't chatted much since we lost our beloved family members earlier this year. I hope you, your hubby and the rest of your menagerie are adjusting to her absence. David and I still miss Tasha a lot...but not in the condition she was in. We look at photos and remember her in her prime...and that is what we miss.
Anyway, back to the topic..we are in Southwestern Manitoba in a small rural community of under 1,000 residents. We used to live in Winnipeg, the largest city in Manitoba...approximately 750,000 people...or maybe more now...not sure.
No snow for you...good! Let us hope it stays that way. I am sure this will pass fairly soon. It usually does at this time of year. It was such an unexpected shift though...Saturday it was over 70 degress F and we were out in short sleeved shirts while working in the garden and then sitting around the fire-pit in the evening with light jackets on. Then WHAM...out come the scarves, mitts and winter boots...AGAIN!
Good catching up and seeing you here again. I have a little time and will drop by your site in the next day or so.
Take care my pet loving gal-pal!

Hi there! Well, now that's we're in the middle of the summer, here in Nova Scotia the weather's been unusually hot and muggy. We seem to go back and forth between hot, sunny days and torrents of rain. The ground this month is so saturated that it doesn't soak up the rain. It got up to 75 degrees here yesterday and then it stormed last night. There was one town that got 6 inches of hail it looked like it had snowed but it was hail! They had to use snowplows to get it off the street! Today is only suppose to be about 59 degrees so alot cooler than yesterday.

Well here in Southern California Tustin to be exact its eighty five out and 8;00 in the evening and I have a box fan blowing on me as I write. It is going to be hot all week end from what I have heard. ugh. too warm. A couple of days ago it was only fifty five and chilly as all get out. we have had an odd spring so far. I like it when it settles down to around seventy. wellat least when you getrid of the snow everything will be fresh and green.

I guess we are never satisfied when it is too cold we grumble...when it is too hot we grumble...ah yes the human condition.
I appreciate having comparisons in discussions like this..and I do not find chats on the weather boring at all. From what I am reading in the replies so far a lot of places are having "odd' Springs. However, you are right...once the snow goes it will be green, fresh and lush very soon. At this time of year it won't last long. It was just a shock because on Saturday of last week we were gardening in short sleeves and applying sunscreen.

Anyway, always fun to share everyday things like the weather...personal, updated and current. Love this site! Hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us do. Look forward to chatting again and hearing what part of Utah you are from if you'd care to say.

Spring has finally sprung for us. We have been having beautiful weather. Its even been hot some. We have had to use the fans and I have been thinking about dusting off the AC units and getting them in the windows. Yesturday we had temps in teh 80's, today was cooler but still nice. My son has been getting our garden ready too. I love going out in my yard and picking a fresh juicy tomato. We had a snowy winter, March was really snowy, I didn't think it would ever end. Our Spring is so beautiful. The grass and trees are green, flowers are blooming everywhere. People are smiling, even the animals seem to be smiling. I hope the snow melts fast and that is it for now.

Hello, my friend! You're not alone with the weird weather we're having. One day, it'll be warm and sunny and the next, temperatures have plummeted, and yes, even we had snowfall in April.
At the moment though, the flowers have all bloomed in the garden and the weather is quite a bit warmer. We've been forecast two days rain now, but I'm hoping it won't be too bad!
By the way, if you wouldn't mind looking closely into the picture again, my friend, I believe you'll be quite surprised. Perhaps you'll let me know if and why you are?
Brightest Blessings.

I saw similar things in the photograph, and I've been taking pics since the snow melted, which also reveal some interesting features. The reason I didn't tell you what I saw was because I know you have the "Sight" and I didn't want to influence that. The fact that you and a couple of others, at least, have come back with the self-same thing, tells me that my garden is alive, as in fact, is my home in certain areas.
Thank you for that... I don't know your IM address, I don't think, but will be more than happy to chat with you there sometime. Take care and Brightest Blessings. xxx

Greetings...and thank you for the update and the absolutely gorgeous photo. Looking at it more closely I see a variety of spiritual images within the trees and shrubs. In the taller tree to the left I see an image of an ancient tree man. I am about to sign off shortly but I will check back and look more intently tomorrow sometime and come back with more of what I see. I am unsure what you are envisioning...but in a case like this it is akin to reading tea leaves...everyone's mystical eye sees different things and it is a joy to share them with you.
Look forward to chatting more...we can do it here, by PM or e-mail...anytime.

I live in Winnipeg, and I did not like April or the first part of May. I figured that those who say that we were going through global warming were out of their minds or trying to make the Western world have a lower standard of living and I am pleased to say that I am correct. They are.
Now it is summer and it is lovely out here, but the gas prices are sky high and the good food in the stores are more expensive. It is above 20 celcius which is normal for this time of year. So I am enjoying myself and plan to take a walk today and enjoy all the beautiful sunshine.
I already mowed the lawn, and I will see if there are any strawberries on my two small strawberry patches.

Okay, this is four weeks after you posted your thread but here - its quite warm. I made the mistake of choosing community over a nice, new apartment with all the modern amenities in a nice part of town. Instead we have an old house with lots wrong with it far from town.
So we have no air - the windows with screens are open but its still unbearably hot.
I guess we have great neigbhors though - houses and land owned by our landlady and a garden and a huge yard. And water to go into the garden. And now I know not to be enchanted again with people but look at practicalities as well. Our landlady is happy in heat and bundling up in layers in the winter but we're not. We have learned a great deal and I'm happy about that.

Hi...
Always enjoyable hearing from you. I have been away from Mylot lately due to increasing demands for my writing. I have two columns now and we are in the process of putting a new website up. Life coaching by telephone is also working out very well.
I miss being here and connecting with soul-friends like you. From the sound of it you have learned some valuable life lessons and developed greater clarity about what you DO and DO NOT want for you and your loved ones. Sometimes the learning can have some distressing aspects to it...and I sincerely hope your living arrangements improve and become more aligned to what you, your hubby and child wish for yourselves.
Take good care and know that my thoughts, love, light and well wishes are heading your way. Even when we are out of touch my world feels a little brighter knowing that fellow light workers like yourself are out there.
Hugs...
