What is the last book you read?

What is the last book you read, and did you enjoy it? Was there anything particularly special about it? Anything that stands out, or inspired, or touched you in some way? The last book I tried to read was "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini. I enjoyed the movie, but I couldn't make it past chapter one in the book. I love fantasy, but this was not original, to me, and the writing style was lacking too much to get me to really engage myself in the story. The last book I was actually able to make it through was, I believe, the seventh Harry Potter book. That one I managed to get through in a single sitting! Of course, that's because I refused to put it down, desperate to find out exactly what happened, how, and why. I did enjoy the way that J.K. Rowling wrapped the series up, though I was disappointed that Luna wasn't mentioned in the epilogue. BUT... I don't want to give away too much, for those that haven't read the seventh installment, so I'll stop there. Your turn...

I am currently reading a book called This Lullaby. It really isn't doing much for me; so I guess I don't really like it! I was also reading the book Star by Pamela Anderson but I don't like that book either!

Eep! I'm sorry. That sounds like a string of bad luck! What kind of books do you usually like? Maybe I could make a suggestion based on that?

The last book I read was The Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz. I really enjoyed the book. It was about a special golden retriever. It was a bit more on the good spiritual side of things more than most of his books. Very good reading.

Realm of the Gods by Tamora Pierce was the last book I read -- finished reading it just a bit ago today now, I thoroughly enjoyed it...but that's hardly surprising since I've long admired the author and loved her books. I recently re-read the last Harry Potter book myself, and it was quite a fun read. Plenty of angsting to keep me happy, lol. And I actually prefer Paolini's book over the movie. Mostly, because the movie felt...forced? It also seemed too much like movies already done in hollywood, no real effort put into it. That's how it FELT to me. The book however, while I admit the style is not the most original...but the story was unique enough -- and you gotta give it some credit, 'cause how many teenagers do you know that can right OVER two hundred pages in a book. As a teen writer myself, I've been lucky whenever I have managed it. Though the fact remains, the books are not my favorites. I liked 'em fine, but they didn't grip me and say, "YOU LOVE ME!" like most of the books I have on my shelf have. And I hope never to watch the movie that was based on the book again lol. But that's me.

lol...hmmmm...the last book i read and managed to finish was "The Rape of Nanking" by Iris Chang, and i only read it cuz i had to write a report on it...lol. umm...its more of a historical book, so i learned a lot, but definitely not as enjoyable as pendragon or harry potter. the book was actually really gruesome, like it discussed horrors that the Japanese committed during WWII to the city of Nanking...but i won't go into any detail, but if u like history, u might wanna check it out

I took an English Literature class last semester at the university and we were asked to read this new novel by Jonathan Safran Foer called Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It's a really wonderful and well-written book. Foer is also one of the more avant garde writers of this generation and one of the things that makes his novel stand out is its presentation. The book is not only meant to be read but also to be 'seen' as there are lots of visuals all throughout from pictures to handwritten notes and stuff. But don't get me wrong, it's not some kind of children's book with all those fancy illustrations. It's actually a post 9/11 story which deals with loss, recovery, and discovery. And the images are there to allow the readers to relate and take part in what the main character is going through. It's a really worth read!

The very last book I finished reading was Seven Up by Janet Evanovich. It's a good book, I've been reading some of her books even before this one. It's really entertaining, I hope you'll read one soon. I am now currently reading Ten Big Ones, still from the same author. I responded to one of the discussions here not a long time ago asking almost the same question. The mylotter said that Eragon was his/her last too. I'm actually curious and would love to read the book version but not the first Eragon movie, I want the second and the third which I think not having a movie version yet.

Right now I am reading a crime novel series of ten books writtenin the 60s and 70s. They are written by Sjövall and Wahlöö. Novel about a crime. The books are about a policeman, Martin Beck, and his colleges. The authors started a new way of writing crime stories in Scandinavia, and today there are many really good crime authors here that drew inspiration from these books. They do not only tell the story of a crime, but gives a picture of the society and takes a stand. I am now on the 5th book. I love them. I find that ost of the stories may have taken place today as well. there are not many things that remind me that they are really about 40 years old. The only thing I think about from time to time is how hard it must have been to be on a stake out with no mobile phone. It is hard to stalk someone and having to use public pay phones.

I just read a rather bad bit of science fiction, it was by a guy who, I think, was trying to immitate Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker books, badly. I did read the darn thing thru tho, because it wasn't totally awful.

I just finished reading "The Rule of Four" at 4am this morning! I heard about it, some people described it as something like the Da Vinci Code. A friend of mine started reading it but she said it wasn't that interesting so I never gave it another thought. I ran out of books several days ago and was itching to get my hand on a new one so I scoured my sister's collection and found the same book. She did not have a good review for it as well. BUt I decided to read it just the same. Finished it in 2 days! I was hooked. If you've seen the movie "The Number 23", it had the same kind of obsession. It held a mystery all throughout that you want to just finish and know already. The story revolved around the interpretation and unraveling the secrets of the of the "Hypnerotomachia Poliphili".

I just finished reading "Confessions of a shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella. It was entertaining. But nothing too special about it other than the likeliness of the main character and myself, and that it made me read with a british accent inside my head. And I don't even come from an english speaking country, lol.

The last book I read was "Enduring Love" and I read it for my English exam. It was an okay book for a book you have to study, but otherwise it was rather rubbish overall.

The last book I read is Clive Cussler's Sacred Stone. The novel composed of two storyline brought to one by the meteorite from an exploded planet from far galaxy. A number of people wanted to get their hands on the meteorite to use in their selfish desires. One of these people were terrorist group who wanted to use the meteorite to bomb London. Luckily, a private-turned-government special operations group intercepted the bombing but the meteorite has found a new owner who will use it to bring down Islam by replacing it to the Sacred stone in Mecca and destroy it. the special operations group also saved the day without arousing suspicion of the arab nation..
