I have four housecats and they fight on who is going to drink from the sink every time someone head to the bathroom, it is so funny for they have there own water bowls but they love hanging out in the sink and lounge..My oldest one has also started to hang out laying in the tub, it is cooler for them in there and them waiting for a drip to drop is just hilarious..I love my cats and yes this is common for cats, if you train them and let them do they will always do it and no it is not psychological problems just cats being cats.

My cat jumps in the sink a lot. Well, she did when she lived indoors, anyway. She would sit there and lick the spicket until you turned it on and let her drink from the spout. (She was a bit spoiled, as you can tell.) She just loved the sink.

My kitten absolutely adores being in the sink - in the kitchen and the bathroom, as well as "dancing" in the bottom of the shower once we've finished.
She's really quite strange =P
When I'm on the toilet, though, she always sits in front of me and just looks me in the eyes, before rubbing against my legs and purring.
It's an odd thing to share, but it's our special time =P

Cats are so funny. You have to lovethem. My cat will only drink from the sink not a bowl and the other one only a cup not a bowl and i just let them.Thay have been like that from day one.No matter if the bowl was on the floor thay would not have anything to do with it.Cats love to go in the sinks and that to keep cool.
