I went to Worlds Healthiest Food website. They clam that spinach went from Persia (Iran) to china in the 7 century and on thespian in the 11 century. For a while spinach was known as "the Spanish vegetable" in England.
In fact Spinach was the favorite vegetable of Catherine de Medici, a historical figure in the 16th century. When she left her home of Florence, Italy, to marry the king of France, she brought along her own cooks, who could prepare spinach the ways that she especially liked. Since this time, dishes prepared on a bed of spinach are referred to as "a la Florentine."
Though Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, vitamin C, vitamin B2, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B6. It also can cause some real problems for some people.
I enjoy learning the history of different foods.
My family loves spinach. We add lemon pepper and or vinegar after it is cooked. I also like to add it to salads.

that is interesting, dee! I guess I thought it was European with such lovely flavors imparted by Florentine recipes.
I grew up eating greens (spinach, beets, mustard, etc) with vinegar - but as an adult a neighbor served it with soy sauce on instead and it really did impart a wonderful flavor... guess that takes it back towards the chinese influence, eh?

hi there. I love spinach too. It tastes great with garlic. I love it as a single dish or as a component of a dish. I think people who don't like spinach are usually children hehe.
I think this green pulp is yummy and I have heard that it is healthy too.
have a nice day, jazgottt.

I do very much like spinach... but truly only if it is fresh. I do not care much at all for canned spinach, but will eat it if served. I like fresh spinach in recipes or raw in a salad or on a sandwich. I think spinach goes very well with chicken dishes, and swiss or feta cheese!
