So, I'm trying to learn how to use social networks to get my content out there.
What I've learned so far is that there a few tried and true ways to do it. I think the best way by far is to have a good website, or blog. It's true, you don't get something for nothing - you have to make content that people like. If you have a straight-up marketing blog with nothing worthwhile, people will not pay attention. You have to give them what they want.
So, what I'm focusing now on is trying to get a crew of people with similar interests. I'm on del.icio.us and twitter.
Twitter is fun because you can do micro-blogging. Basically give people a one-sentence statement like:
"Hey, what are you up to?"
That way, people will reply with links and websites that will lead you to content. With more friends on twitter, you can have a hundred hits within a few minutes. If you have a viral video, this is a good way to generate steam.
Thanks for reading!
