CBS news just did a return feature about Freerice.com, a school in Indiana where sixth graders use the site, and students in Uganda who receive rice from Freerice. So far enough rice has been donated to feed a million people for a day. Unfortunately, the rice shortage and speculation and a shortfall in donations is causing cut backs in feeding programs. Have you checked out freerice.com yet? How well do you do on your vocabulary. I have made it to level 50 one time. I am more likely to hover at 46.

I have freerice.com saved in my favorites. I don't remember what level I get too, I don't do too bad though. This is a good post, its a good reminder for all of us to go to freerice and do our part.

Polly, that is the purpose of starting another discussion about it, we all forget. Also, as whiteheather mentioned the other site for animal rescue, which is actually six linked donation sites. Thanks, we will keep this in front of people this way.

It feels good to do good, and you are never poor, if you can give something away.

I had never heard of it before but have just had a look at it. Great site - thanks for telling us about it. I got to 45 but it looks like one of those things I shall spend a lot of time on, I love word games, so hopefully I'll improve a little anyway. Have bookmarked the site so I'll be a regular visitor.

Hi, thanks, for your interest. It is good to stir up our own minds, which is good for us. I just was touched to see them actually giving the rice to the people.

You will learn many new words. I will admit, some of them are not as useful in everyday conversation as others. It is interesting to me seeing how they fit in with the other things I know.

Very cool site. I just added it to my favorites as well. Thank you for posting this discussion. One thing that might be nice for FreeRice to do on their site is to have a way to log in and track your donations per say. This would allow them to create a member base for marketing purposes and it would sort of add competitive incentives for people to play as they could track their "rank" among other players. Just a thought

It's good to hear that the rice are actually donated to the needs. I'm re-visiting freerice.com recently, and glad to find that there are more subjects offering now, not just the English vocabulary. Hope everyone can spend a little bit of time and help others. ^_^

I have not visited the site yet, but it sure seems worthy of a visit. I will be passing by after answering this discussion. Initiatives like this are proof that good things can be done over the internet, and it's a good feeling isn't it? :)

i think that is a neat little site (if they actually do it) not saying they dont and all just kinda odd and all. though I do see its use. I never really thought of someone doing it but I do see how games on the net are useful as everyone plays them now days lol. Though I probably wont make it far lol. ~*~J_Dawgs~*~

I 've heard that before and i tried and donated around 200. I think freerice.com is a fantastic site where you can achieve your dream--helping those in need. To native speakers, this site is good because you can help others while checking vocabulary, to guys like me who are not native speakers we can learn many new words while helping others. So why not? Have a nice day donating rice to people in need. :-)

Yes, I have gone there. It is kind of fun. I do really well on the vocaulary questions there. I got like 25 words correct before I finally got one wrong, and then it took a while before I got another one wrong. I love the concept of the site. I think it is great.

I played that for a while when I used to have time. I don't get to as much any more, but it is good SAT practice for me, and I enjoy being able to help feed people who are out in the workd hungry and starving. It is an educational site with a good cause.

Whoops, sorry: I meant "out in the world," not "out in the workd."

Just tried the checking the site, it was a good game and hope that I did something to help those people of Uganda to nurture and feed themselves. I only managed to reach 40, it's a bit hard but I also enjoyed enriching my vocabularies. Rice shortage is also a problem here in my country, but we can still manage because we have lots of choices and varieties of food to eat here. I just hope that everyone do their shares as well, now I found another way to help other people for free..
