The oldest cat you have or know of?

A friend of mine had to move across country, and he couldn't take his cat with him. Knowing that my house is cat central, he asked if I would take her. Of course, I can't very well let her be homeless, so I agreed.
Fairly recently, I was talking to him on the phone and discovered how old she really is. "Kitten" is 22 years old! And she still acts like a spring chicken whenever there's wet food in view, or a moth gets her attention. She has trouble maintaining a healthy weight (she's far too skinny), but 22 years old? She's the Methuselah of cats! She's earned the right to be a bit too skinny, and have a health problem or two.
So, what's the oldest cat you have, or have personally met? Heck, even a news story or article you read about an older cat? What were/are they like? Did they still have energy for the things they enjoyed, or were they sickly? What's your elderly kitty story?

i had a few cats that actually got pretty old and i have one right now that is kind of old...and the one's that i have had were like ten or twelve years old and i know that that doesn't seem to be too old but it seems like whenever they get that old they dissapear or something happens to them..and i mean thats pretty old for a cat because usually by that age its harder for them to do things that they use to do..

That is actually pretty old for a cat. They usually only live about 10-15 years (assuming, of course, nothing happens to them before that point).
It's a really rare thing for a cat to live longer then 15 years, let alone longer then 20! I think it's utterly amazing how old Kitten is, and still kicking. :)

My husbands cat is 14. I have heard of cats getting past 2o but I think it is really rare.

I think cats live on an average of 17 years. Most of my cats have lived longer than this. MY previous cats lived to be 19 and 18 respectively. My cat now is about eight or nine. My sister's cats have lived less than 10 years however. They came down with diseases. I think if your cat lives healthy and disease free, they have a good chance at a long life. I think like people, when they are happy and attended to emotionally they tend to live longer.
