day trips for the summer

hello. now that the weather is getting nice again, i love planning day trips with my boyfriend. and since we dont have enough money for a vacation i plan on doing day trips instead and not sleeping over at a hotel. i am definately excited about goin to the beach and like going mini golfing when it is nice out. i also want to go to essex steam train and then a boat ride on the Connecticut River. every year we do these and i am just looking for any ideas people may have in general, or things in new england. were from connecticut but would travel nearby. ie. massachusetts, rhode, island, etc. i like going to state parks, museums, scenic drives, zoos, aquariums, etc. whatever im game. lol any suggestions would be great!! thanks in advance.
