Don't I know you?

Have you ever met someone here in MyLot or in a social networking site, got to know them, and then found out that you already know them in "real life"? It hasn't happened to me, but I'd be really interested to hear if anyone has had that experience. Was the person different on the internet? How did you react when you found out that you already knew each other? What would you do if it happened to you?

I cant say as I have. I have always stayed away from sites where I am interacting with others, as with all the horror stories you hear, I didnt trust any of them. I cant really say why I feel differently about mylot, but it is more like hanging out with friends than anything else to me.

I can relate in a way, cause for me it is both exciting and an honor to meet people from other countries. It is a real pleasure.

I was the same, but got into social networking once I started working from home. Spending all you time with young children and their mums can do your head in. You need some adult time as well, and I don't mean in the "mature content" context. I've still yet to meet someone online that I already know. In a lot of these sites, it's still exciting just to come across a fellow Aussie!

I feel the same way. We are really lucky in Sydney to have such a multicultural society, even if sometimes there are problems with it getting a bit segregated. I look at my daughter's preschool class, and it's like a mini United Nations. It's wonderful. I hope she will grow up with a genuine acceptance and knowledge of other cultures. I love the internet because lets me meet people from all over the world. It is fantastic to broaden horizons. It's been nice to meet you :)

I am yet to have it happen on MyLot, but I have met people elsewhere on the internet only to find out that we have mutual friends and have actually been at some of the same venues, even though we live in different states. It's quite cool, and it really encapsulates "it's a small world". =D

Wow, thanks for sharing that! How on earth did you find out that you had mutual friends?

Well, we met on "Hot or Not", quite an embarrassing meeting place, and got talking over MSN Messenger, after a few months of talking, we got onto the topic of a certain annual performance just north of my home town, and found out that we had both been there and that he had lived not too far away from my town and was dating a girl that I know from the hopsital. It was all quite strange and amusing. =) It's quite odd, on the whole World Wide Web, to meet someone who lives only a few hundred kilometres away. 6 degrees of separation, I guess. =P

It would be weird ... and of all places to have met. I'm sure you were both hot! In some ways, I'd be a bit nervous mixing the internet with my "real life". This is my way of relaxing and escaping, so if the real world invades, it might take something away. Thanks for your cool story!

It really did not happen yet in any social networking site for me. Hope so it happens in future. Its going to be good thrilling event I suppose if it happens. We all of sudden talk facing face to face instead of just chatting in front of computer.cheers! have fun here

I think it would be strange. Even finding out what someone really looks like after making friends on the net can be odd. You kind of form an opinion of them and then they look totally different. It's good for us, I think ... makes us concentrate on real people rather than on looks.
