Is Chicago trying to be number 1....in murders?

Last weekend it was warm in Chicago, high 70's. Apparently the warm weather brought out the criminals. 38 people were shot and 6 died in Chicago.
This past week a woman was found murdered in her home and her 3 children are missing. There is an Amber Alert out for the boyfriend's vehicle.
Also, 5 people were found murdered in a house 2 or 3 days ago. They were aparently beaten before they were shot. It is a quiet neighborhood, but neighbors heard the gunfire early in the morning, the night after a party was held at the house.
This is very scary stuff and it points toward a terrible trend of violence happening in Chicago this summer.
Extreme heat brings out the worst in bad people. The city is vying for the Summer Olympics, I think in 2016. With a trend such as this, I don't think it stands a chance in heck of getting them. Chicago is already out, according to Peter Ueberoth (sp).
While being number one is usually a good thing, I don't think being number one in murders is what they are shooting (pardon the pun) for as a prize.
Do you think heat brings out the worst of bad people?

I am so sorry to hear about this. Chicago is the one city I really want to visit.I hope your neighborhood is still as safe as it can be. Take care.

I live about 30 miles west of the city and my neighborhood is safe and quiet. Most of this violence happened on the South side, which has some rough neighborhoods. But, the West side, where the United Center is also has some bad areas. Downtown Chicago is relatively "safe". Unfortunately, there are areas around Wrigleyville that are very bad, with the gangs. I usually take the El train to a Cubs game, it lets me off 1 block from Wrigley Field. I used to drive and park several blocks away and walk through gang infested hoods.
Thanks

Whew. I am glad you are safe. And I am glad you can take the El to see the Cubs.Question.I always get the West side and the South side all confused. The White Sox fans are where? The Cubs fan are where?

White Sox are on the South Side, near the Dan Ryan Expressway. The old Comiskey park is now a parking lot for Cellular Field. Makes it safer for the fans to go to their cars after the game, instead of walking through a gang infested area. They also tore down several "projects" when they built the new field. Ever hear of Cabrini Green? They tore it down. It was one of the most infamous public housing projects in the U.S.
The Cubbies are on the North Side, although only 3 miles away from The Cell. While the neighborhood directly surrounding Wrigley is very nice, a few blocks in the wrong direction can be very dangerous.
Don't get me wrong, I love Chicago, as long as I stay in the right areas. Just like any big city, there are good neighborhoods and bad ones. It is beautiful on State Street around Christmas. The museums and Aquarium are fantastic. And there is plenty of shopping on The Magnificent Mile. Old Town is cool. There is a stretch on Halsted that has rainbow poles all along the street depicting it as a GLBT area. Great, funky shops there.
PEACE
