Do you ever hang your clothes outside to dry?

I love, love, love the smell of clothes after they have dried outside on the clothes line! I have one of those umbrella clothes lines and just put it back up Thursday and dried 2 loads of laundry outside. It was 80 degrees and just gorgeous! Not only does it smell good, it saves on your electricity bill! I sold a house last August and one of the deed restrictions was that they could not have a clothes line! I read that outloud and the builder's rep said, who hangs clothes outside to dry anymore? I said, I do! My clients laughed and were intrigued by my answer........but evidently it did not bother them. I think I would put a line up anyway, or build somewhere else!

We don't hang our clothes out to dry. We have too many birds for that. They would get nasty before they had time to dry all the way.

Yikes on the birds! I have a ton of trees and birds around here, but have never had a problem with them pooping on my clothes...........they stay in the trees and just fly around, etc. Once or twice I may have seen them land for a minute on the umbrella clothes line I have, but I have never seen evidence of messes. Thank goodness! Have a good day!

Interesting... I have never bought a clothe dryer... and don't plan on buying one. People today are simply too lazy to hang their washing on a clothe line. Just think how much electricity we could save without a clothe dryer in every home. We talk about energy crisis... but it is us the people... who are directly responsable. Not anybody else.

I must assume it is always warm where you live? I have to use the dryer in the winter. I suppose I could hang a line down in the basement and dry there in the winter. That may be something I will try next winter. For the next several months to come though, it will be outside each and every time. To be sure, we could all save on electricity by not using a clothes dryer! Have a good day!

I haven't hung clothes out to dry in 30 years! lol Well, almost. I always loved hanging out clothes with my Mom. I loved the smell of them, especially the bedding. My oldest daughter, though, hated it. She said they "stunk." lol I told her that was the fresh air and sunshine...she didn't go for that. Anyway, I stopped hanging anything out. Now that I'm addicted to the dryer, I couldn't give it up easily! lol

I would actually rather hang outside than walk down stairs to the dryer to get the dry clothes out :) It saves on electricity and I do love the smell as well. The towels are a bit rough at first when you get out of the bath or shower, but they soften right away and are fresh and clean! Go ahead and hang your sheets and pillow cases outside this weekend and see what happens! Have a good day!
