I think it does damage your eyes, because reading in the dark strains your eyes.

Yeah you should. Just read with a bed lamp or something like that and it should stop making the problem worse.

I hope it is not true(and am sure someone will explain the answer for you) as I enjoy reading by natural light much more than by artificial light.Last night I read until just after 9 pm before it got too dark to read so I went in and watched some tv.The light adds atmosphere to what I read as well.I enjoy true crime stories amongst other subjects so you can see how a fading light would help with the mood.

It is a good idea to visit an optometrist annually as they can detect potential vision problems before they occur. The eyesight is not to be taken for granted and better safe than sorry.

i'm sure it might temporarily strain them, but i think you'd really really have to do that long term to cause permanent damage.i got one of those little book lights to keep myself from doing that.

Turn a light on!!! It does damage your eyes. Starting at about age 11 I loved to read so much and I would stay up late reading books. By the time I was 15 I couldn't see the board in the classroom - it was all just fuzz. No one else in my family has glasses, not even grandparents. The eye doctor was asking me questions and when I told him that I read at night without a lamp on he let me know that was what probably caused my sight problems.
