How do you choose your friends?

Here on Mylot, do you invite friends, or do you wait for friends to invite you?
When you do invite, what atracts you to the person? Do you look through their profile?
When a person sends you an invite, do you just accept it, or do you look them over and make your decision? What would make you chose to deny them?

Thankfully I haven't gotten any of those yet. I've only deleted one friend, and that was because I didn't believe they were very honest, and their group of friends judt didn't seem like people I would hang out with in the real world. So, I just let him know we were from two completely different worlds, and didn't think we had anything to offer each other.
Do you feel the need to explain yourself when you hit delete?

In general, I wait to be invited I guess. Not really on purpose though, just kind of the way it turns out.
Those times when I have sent someone a friend request, it's because I truly enjoy their conversation, and they seem an approachable, at least semi-friendly person. They don't necessarily have to have started any discussions of their own, but if I enjoy speaking with them, or debating with them, what-have-you, then I'll probably want to be their friend, particularly so that I can peek in on conversations they start or respond to, which will likely be interesting to me.
They don't have to be someone I agree with often, or ever for that matter, just someone who I think is a good conversationalist, starts interesting discussion, shares interests, etc. Basically, it's not all that different from how I choose friends in real life.

Oh. I should add that I accept everyone who sends me a friend request, unless I see something in their posts or profile that suggests they're just here to sell me something or copy and paste into every conversation without a purpose other then to attempt to manipulate the system. But, honestly, I don't spend much time at all checking them out for those things, especially if I've already been in at least one discussion with them.

Yeah, that's about what my "requirements" are too. Have you ever deleted someone from your friends list?
