Email Notifications

I've recently turned the email notifications on for friends discussions. I did it because I don't find the "discussions my friends started" section that helpful. I have some friends that start lots of discussions and some that don't start many so theirs were getting lost amongst others discussions. Plus the fact that the discussions change position in the list as people respond to them makes it confusing too. Anyway, so far it's working quite well because now I know when a friend starts a new discussion. The thing I don't like about it is that if you respond directly from the email you can't see the other responses to the discussion first and personally I like to see how the discussion is developing before I respond. So what I'm doing at the moment is following the link from the email, then clicking onto the persons profile and finding the discussion that way because then I can read the whole thing before I respond. It's not the most efficient way to do it. I wish there was a link in the email to view the whole discussion rather than just to directly respond. So does anyone else do it this way? Do you prefer to see the whole thread before you respond or do you not mind posting first and then reading the other responses after you've posted? If you don't have notifications on do you use the "discussions my friends started" section or do you have another way of keeping track of friends discussions?

For the more important friends, I leave the email notification on. A mutual friend had a couple of her discussions deleted, & I was able to send it to her via copy & paste from email. I don't know if anyone ever suggested it to MyLot to replace the email with a link to the discussion instead of a link to reply to one. Furthermore, the present email set-up encourages tossing the do's of the MyLot guidelines out the window, being that you cannot see previous replies & comments.

Well that's what strikes me as odd about the present email set-up too. Because you can't see others comments if you respond from the email and according to the guidelines we're supposed to look at the whole discussion. I've noticed when someone responds back to a comment left in a discussion the email notification for that has a link to view the entire discussion so it should be easy to change I would have thought. I'm going to email them and make the suggestion!

We'll see how that turns out. I had foudn this discussion in my email. I had two choices. One was respond to the discussion, & the other was to go to your profile. I ended up going to your profile, & finding this in the Discussions you started section, & found it empty.

Oh I know - it's a real pain when you go to the trouble of going into someone's profile and then find you're the first person to respond anyway! Thanks anyway - I appreciate you making the effort!

I have always had my Notification on it is a lot easier that way to keep track But I agree that I sometimes wish it would go to the whole Discussion but then I think well no because it forces People to give their own opinion

It is much easier to keep track although of course I tend to let them build up a bit before I look through them and then my inbox is absolutely stuffed with notifications! But it's definitely a better way to make sure I don't miss any new discussions.

I always keep my friends' notifiers turned on that is why I keep my friends list at a number I can easily handle. I prefer to answer from email as I do not want to see what others have posted until I have made my response. Not that I think it would change my response but it is more of a surprise if I see others have the same thoughts or ideas as I do. I do go the long way around through their profile if they are refer to a photo so I can see it before I respond.

Yes I keep my friends list at a manageable number as well. I don't know how people cope when they have hundreds and hundreds of friends. Although I imagine of course they won't have notify on if that's the case. Seeing the whole discussion doesn't usually change what I intend to post but it does occasionally, mainly if the person starting the discussion has made further comments in response to others.

ever since i started at mylot i turned on mylots email notification for my friend's discussion. yes, going into mylot to look at discussions is quite harrowing because it keeps on changing every minute and i can't keep track of it.

LOL harrowing is a good word to describe it! I've even posted twice in the same discussion because of all the changing around it does.
