Do you put sauce/ketchup on your food or on your plate?

Just wondering whether you like to put it all over whatever you are eating, or put a pile on your plate for dipping? I prefer to put it on my plate and dip, especially with pastry products. I find sauce makes the pastry go soggy if its smeared all over it. Do you have sauce with lots of different food, or just a few certain foods? Do you drown your food with it, or just add enough to add to the flavour?

You like to dip, or is that swim in the sauce?! Have you got shares in Heinz? You would have been pleased here the other day, my wife opened a new sauce container and tipped it onto her plate, with a large amount 'ploomping' out. My son, ever the smarty, said 'Gee, have some sauce!'

hello there muscare! i am a ketchup addict LOL! if i cooked hamburgers i put some on top but i will place a lot of it on the plate for burger and fries dipping or whatever partner i make for that day. i like ketchup for almost all kinds of fried foods as well as pizza, yes pizza! haha! regarding the sauces, depends on what kind of sauce it is, i personally dont like A1 sauce for my steak, my husband loves it but i hate the taste of it. i think the only sauce i enjoy is the sweet and sour sauce and the others i dont care much unless i am forced to do so oh, when it comes to salad - i only like thee caesar and maybe ranch (only maybe coz it depends on my mood). that is all takecare!

Hi jairgirl. Ketchup on pizza....ok, you really are an addict. So do you dip the pizza? Doesn't all the topping fall off? Here, we call ketchup 'tomato sauce', so other sauces that I will use are sweet chilli and worcestershire, thats mainly for cooking. I'm not really into dressing on salad, but I do like undressing....LOL, my wife, not the salad! Oops, wrong discussion!!

I prefer to take plain foods most of the time as I like their original taste, whereas my hubby utterly different from that of me. He loves to add chili sauce to the foods in his plate. He feels all the foods are tasteless if without any chili sauce added to them. Luckily that he has never drown his food with chili sauce but just places it aside of the foods in his plate.

The hotter the chili sauce is the better will be for him. When eating noodle he prefers to take some sour pickled green chili. I agree with you that the pungent taste is really the best burning enjoyment for a chili lover.

I feel that some foods do need a little extra flavour, but most I enjoy without any sauces. Does your hubby use a hot chilli sauce or a milder one. If he likes the hot, no wonder he thinks food is tasteless without, he's probably burnt off his tastebuds, LOL!

I would rather dip than smother..That way if I don't eat it all then I don't have to worry that it will get yukky...I very rarely eat anything like ketchup or such on my foods..I like my food plain...no salad dressing on my salads..just plain...

Hi Feona, I'd have to say that there are certainly a lot more foods that I don't have sauce on then I do, and like you, I like my salads undressed....undressed, he, he! Oh, oh, my last reply started to go down this path also. I must be a little distracted today, LOL!

Yes, there's always someone trying to corrupt me. Poor little innocent ol' me! You know that anyway. Don't you, Feona?!

That's depend on what I have, for things like fried rice or fried noodles I will put sauce on my food. If I had food like fries, finger foods, nuggets etc.. I will prefer to put sauce on a plate and dip it.

I love finger foods, and I think there is such a range, with so many different sauces that could be used to get the flavour combo that suits you the best!

This would be according to the food. If I am eating a steak, the sauce would go on the steak, frenchfries however I would probably put the ketchup on the plate.

Yep, it does depend on the food and a person's tastes. I don't have sauce on frenchfries, and I only have it on steak if its on a steak sandwich, otherwise I like my steak without. I just love the natural flavour.

Yeah, I find it interesting that I can but the same cut of steak from different shops and they will taste different. Now I just buy my favourite steak from the plce it tastes better! I do find that if someone else cooks my steak and overcooks it, I may use sauce to it.

Steaks, of which I am a great fan, its according to how they taste. I cant say what makes the difference, but some I use sauce on and some not.

Most of the time I'm a dipper, but with crinkle cut fries I put it directly on the fries. No idea why I like it that way better only on that type of french fry but I do

Must have been a taste you acquired from somewhere. Here, most takeaway deli's will do hot chips with gravy, which is a real hit for kids, and adults don't mind it either. I am also more of a dipper!

I like to dip into the sause and dont like to take it directly on the top of food. If sometime the sause doesnt test good then u always have a chace of chaging ur sause if u r piling it for dipping thats one of the reason.

Yes, if you are unsure of the sauce, or the combination of sauce and food, it makes it hard to change it if its all over it! With dipping, you can also regulate how much you have with each bite.

I put it on my plate unless it's a burger..hotdog or eggs. Otherwise I am a dipper....and I use different sauces for different things. I like chicken strip in honey dijon..ranch on some things and ketchup on others....but I don't drown them! I like it to enhance the flavor.

I agree, hotdogs and burgers do need sauce on them, although I've never had sauce on eggs. My wife use to, so much you could hardly even see the eggs, but doesn't anymore. I also like just enough to enhance the flavour. I like chicken nuggets with sweet chilli sauce, but only the mild one.
