*Excercise at Home* ~ a documentary's negative view of our nation

April 26, 2008 9:42pm CST
Do you, in your home, have any fitness or exercise equiptment, at all? Which items do you use, if any? How about ones you dont use?! :) These can be anything from excersise Videos & DVDS, Ab-Rollers, Thigh Squeezers, Pilates Balls, Medicine Balls, PunchBags, Steps, Handweights, Excercise Bike, Stepper, Rowing Machine, Bullworker, Excercise Mats, Resistance Bands, Yoga/Pilates kit, other Fitness Gear (inc. Gym Kit) etc etc I watched a documentary the other night, about the fitness and excercise gear we all have in our homes. They travelled around, knocking on doors, asking to see what fitness equiptment people had in their homes. They suggested that in most homes, we had some sort of excercise equiptment, but that almost all of it was un-used, often, apparently, still in the box. This program showed us all in a rather poor light when it comes to mental disciplin and physical fitness as a nation, and it got me wondering, whether this was true. So, is this true? What are your personal experiences and opionions about this? Do you own any fitness/exercise kit at home? Have you ever used any of it? If not, what are the reasons you havent used it? Thankyou so much for taking the time to respond. xxx

I have a few exercise DVDs and some resistance bands that I actually do use. I am not a socialite so I prefer to work out at home. Plus, I'm a major klutz so i prefer if people don't see me trip and fall. But yeah, this does shed a bad light on our nation. So do the obesity rates. Obviously, people have the tools. Maybe they just don't have the motivation or willpower.

I think that could probably be the case sonadora, if the results from this documentary are in fact true. I'd be really interested to see if it's correct, but even if we do have exercise equiptment in our home that we never use, it doesnt makes us a bad person, so its important we dont judge too much. I must admit, i'm one of the people who has lots of unused excercise equiptment in my home ... but i have stuff that i do use, also. I think sometimes we can buy a fitness DVD or a gimicky excercise gadget that looks so fun and easy on the box, but when we actually get it home, it becomes just another bit of junk in the attic.. i've had that myself a lot. With fitness, i think its sometimes hard finding a way of getting fit that you actually enjoy.. then when we find the RIGHT bit of kit, we're happier excercising, and this encourages us to do more. Its just about finding the way that suits each indvidual. xxx

I agree with what you're saying. It is so difficult to find something that actually works and something that you actually enjoy. A tough combination to find. I have a lot of unused equipment, too. One can't deny that this really is a big issue with our nation now more than ever.

Thats right it is lovely to excercise outside, especially in the coubtryside with the fresh air. But some people may not be able to excercise ouside of their home, fro health reasons, or because they may not feel comfortable doing so. xxx

yes I have equipment that i rarely use weights workout machines of different types and video work out tapes. I usually don't have enough time to use them by the time I get home from work and the every day run around I am to tired to work out or even think of wanting to. I don't believe that it reflects our nation as a lazy country or a negative cause on our lack of strength. I will say the intentions are good when you spend money on equipment that never gets used but it was not bought at the time just to sit around and become a clothes rack. The problem with home gym equipment is that you have no support to keep you going or to keep you in the right frame of mind to use it.We get lazy from working all day and coming home just to have to do more work around the house just to know that all the work you done wasn't enough to pay all the bills and keep groceries and gas in your car so you can go again and not make enough money to pay the bills and E.T.C. This is where the desire to better ourselves as far as physical or mental gets lost.

I hear what you're saying ~ it can be hard to fit everything in sometimes, and achieve everything in life that needs doing, including getting fit, and earning enough money to live. I also have lots of unused equiptment, but like i said above, i do also have fitness equiptment that i do use too.. i wish i hadnt had to spend all that money buying expensive gym equiptment and fitness 'gadgets', which are now reduntant in my attic, to finally discover which ways i enjoyed to excercise, but with me it was a trial and error, and unfortunately i couldnt 'try before you buy'! ~ i'd imagine there are many people like me, who have bits of un-used or barely-used excercise & fitness gear around their homes, that arent necessarily lazy, or mentally weak. I'm not sure what other people feel about this. xxxx
