Mom, what's the C-word?

After my son's little outburst at the crazy drivers earlier tonight he asked me this nice little question. I know I have never said this one in front of him. Actually, I don't know that I have ever called someone this particular word. I asked him why he wanted to know and he said because some kids at school were talking about different cuss words, and they knew there was a c-word, but none of them knew what it was. I told him that was a word he never needed to know. How would you have dealt with this one?

I would have played dumb on that one too. Never know what a kid will pick up at school. Hopefully it will be a long long time before he finds that one out.

Yeah, let's hope he does not figure that one out for a long long time. He rides the school bus with high school kids too, so I am surprised he does not know what it means by now.

Like you, I would have asked "what C-word?" and then if he didn't know, I would have said something similar to what you did about not needing to know. Had he known the word, I would have said "It means X, but you shouldn't use the word because it hurts people's feelings."

He knows what a lot of the words mean and he knows he is not supposed to say them. I feel that is a word he really does not need to know.
