what is a real friend?

well, I think there is no comparison. there is a difference between the person you love and the person you like. love is a higher level as I think.

they are both important to me.and you can't compare with each other which is more important. it mean sometimes one is vital to me ,and maybe it changed in anoher time. they are both the people that i love deeply. a lover can give you a special feeling that strike your heart,and time will become sweet if your lover aroud you. a friend will make you happy ,and will alaways help you when you are in trouble. sometimes a friend maybe change into a lover, but the revise chance perhaps is low. you can easy find many people that in common with you and they become you friends in your whole life.but i think it is hard to find a person who will be your lover in your whole life.

A real friend won't forsake you when you are in trouble yea . a real friend won't ignore you when you have no use for him yea

Both for me are important. There's just a different degree of importance since one is a romantic level and the other is more on platonic. Althoug it is easier to loose someone you love (boyfriend / girlfriend) than to a friend. You may be able to replace a lover but not a true friend.

Hi relaxtealeaves, For me friend is more important because in all times and situation you can easily lean on to your true friend. I have a lot of friends when I was in high school our foundation of friendship is so strong, I'm happy to have my friends even now I'm 30 we have communication with each other and we have a plan to set a get together maybe next year.

A real friend is someone who cares and has concern to you. I would say, my husband is my real friend... For me, friends are important specially if you knew and on the on the hand they knew you very well. You share good and bad times..Ready to listen and be on your side in times of trouble and loneliness...

I think it is the difference between friend and lover. A boy/girlfriend should be just that - friendship. If it grows into something more then fine, you become lovers. But I think you are right, friendship is more important. My wife and I have been friends and lovers for 38 years!
