Are you sure you aren't talking about me? I have always been afraid of clowns and I couldn't tell you why either. All I know is ever since I can remember they have terrified me. It's an irrational fear and there is a name for it actually: Coulrophobia
When I was little my mother actually had to drag me to meet Bozo the clown, he had his own show when I was little. Now the hobo style clown, like Emmett Kelly or D ick Van Dy.ke when he does the clown bit, doesn't bother me but the ones with white faces and such, no way am I getting near them. The book and movie "Stephen King's IT" really scare me. I like them but Pennywise is my personal fear come to life.

I have a fear of clowns. I've just always hated them, ever since I was little. Once I was at a church service (something called a Word Explosion in Tulsa, OK) and I bawled my head off because I did not want to go to my age group's class because there were clowns. There's just something about clowns that makes them seem like they have a "hidden evil" to me. I've never been to a haunted house and would like to go but I don't think I ever will because of how much I really don't like clowns. I know you're supposed to be scared at a haunted house but a clown is just too much for me. I have never watched IT because of the fact that it's about a clown. I can definitely relate to someone who is afraid of clowns. They are just plain scary.

I am not scared of clowns. But I do understand why it is possible to be scared of them. Some looks kind of mad and creepy. It is not easy to tell how they feel with all that paint on their faces. Also clowns are kind of mean and unpredictable. They do mean stuf to eachother. Who knows? Maybe they will turn on you next?
I have also seen quite a few movies where the clowns are mean murderous types. In Batman the Joker has the face of a clown. he is not nice.

No, I don't know anybody, but he must have had some childhood experience that made him afraid. You could ask him what's the scariest things that has happened to you as a kid. That should get him to tell you.
