How much water do you drink in a day? Why?

I only got about 4 hours of sleep because I drank more water than I usually do. Well more water than I have in a long time. I am trying to lose weight and according to Marilu Henner (who lost 56 pounds) says we need to drink half our body weight in ounces of water I only drank about 1/4 of that yesterday and it kept me up all night running to the bathroom! So how much water do you drink every day? And do you notice any changes when you do or don't drink water?

I don't drink nearly enough water as I should. I lost about 60 pounds two years ago. Drinking alot of water is definatley key to losing weight. It helps to flush you out and get rid of unecessary substances in your body. I was drinking about eight glasses of water a day. Now I am hooked on diet sodas especially diet pepsi. While these are better than regular sodas, they still contain sweetners that create fat cells. I need to drink more water, but it is hard to get off this soda.

I understand where you're coming from regarding the diet soda. I'm not hooked on it but it does taste better than plain old water in my opinion. However, it is really bad for us and I think it helps you retain water because of the sodium in it. I could be wrong. But I notice when I drink it - it does not help me lose weight. Of course, that could be fromo the fat cells it creates as you mentioned.

I really don't drink as much water as I should and I know this. Sometimes I drink more water than I normally do, other times I barely drink any at all. I know that if I drink water, I tend to drink more of it quicker and then I really have to go to the bathroom continously.

Well I'm not sure on that amount that she gives. Not sure what that would work out too really. I know many doctors say that at ideal weight you should drink 64 ounces of water per day (eight, 8 ounce glasses) but that if you are over weight to add one glass for every ten pounds.
I do know from personal experience drinking more water can help you lose weight. It fills you up along with flushes out the body. It also once your body gets used to having it in your system keeps it from trying to store it (the dreaded water weight ). What you should do is drink when you are thirsty and go by what your body tells you to but if you are just starting to drink water add it in slowly and work up to it. Start with a few glasses and go from there.

I probably drink around a litre of water a day. Sometimes I drink less, however I don't drink soft drinks or coffee. And I only drink herbal teas so I think all that helps eliminate toxins. I don't like drinking too much as I end up running to the loo a lot!

I am not really a water drinker before, maybe only about 3-4 glasses a day. This time I think I drink more than 2 liters of water a day. This started when I got some stones in my kidney. So I need to drink more water to git rid of those stones.
