It would depend on the level of stress, and what it is coming from, at times music can make it worse, even if it is music that sooths, because sometimes quiet is the best stress relief. When listening to the music to calm or sooth, or relieve stress it would depend again on the mood and what kind of stress, on one job I had, I could leave a radio on quietly in the background, and would listen to country station especially when things were frantic pace at work and it helped, me focus more on the job, and be more productive, and work in frantic high paced job with 4 supervisors all wanting their paper work at the same time, and still remain calm. On the other hand, there are times when country music is just annoying. If I want to kind of quiet myself and take a time out, then listening to something like Carlos Nakai, would be great, I also listen to his music for meditation. When I am trying to focus, and relax at other times, again depending on where the stresss is from, I may choose oldies, or contemporary. I never listen to say what my roommate listens to for relaxing which is more of a hard rock, noise, loud booming sound. I think in part that is why I say it varies to mood and frame of mind and even personality and preferences as well when it comes to music to help best for stress relief.

Thank you for the best response. I know that there are those who like specific music and kind of stick to that one kind, however I find that the variety is what works best for me. LOL most things in my life are on the depends of where I am at type of attitude. It was an intersting question and made me think about myself, It is always a good idea at times for us to take a look at who we are and how we react, and respond and deal with what happens in our lives.

Yes! I dont know exactly but I know that very calming music helps the best .. The type of music you would listen to when you are doing Yoga. I like music with nature sounds like the ocean waves, or birds chirping, or even African drums or something like that. However I do not actually listen to this type of music hardly at all .. But I do find that rock music as well as metal can sometimes help to relieve stress (but it would be better to get rid of depression).

I like ambient, downtempo stuff like Portishead, Zero 7, Halou for relaxing. Oh, and the Cocteau Twins, I find them extremely relaxing.

I absolutely do use music as stress relief. Any kind of music will do, so my selection depends largely on my mood. I have a specific song that always pops into my head for every mood, every moment, every occasion, and the list is ever-growing with each passing day. The only rule, however, is that I have to be in a place where I can dance - or at least move freely - for the stress to leave my body most efficiently. But I do need music to be able to "dance it out."

Music is good for relaxing but it is the the one I choose to be relieved from stress. I usually go out to buy something to eat. This way I feel more relaxed. Sleep is also a good stress reliever. And lastly, a very good stress reliever is having a friend listen to your burdens. This reminds of being understanding when someone wants someone to tell me of something as burden, problem, etc....

I listen to different types of music to relieve different types of stress. If I'm stressed out because something has made me mad I listen to 70's hard rock and if I'm uptight from a bad day 60's R&B.

Yes, I use music as a stress or emotional relief. For me super grungy, angry punk and rock does the thing. I think it helps me release negative energy. xD

You can try nature clips at http://www.relaxwithnature.com The music alone is relaxing, but the image adds that little bit extra.

I find that classical music is the most stress releasing music for mild stress relief.. however, if i am REALLY stressed.. I have an "angry disc" that I listen to that generally does the trick.

music has been a need in my life for as long as ive been alive. if i could, id be one of those people that has someone following them around with a stereo playing theme music for any given part of the day! ..;laughs;.. to just relax.. and defrag from the day.. itll be something melodic and instrumental. for stress relief.. itll be something harsh, loud, with a really hard beat.. cranked to make the windows rattle.. while im either working out or cleaning or doing other physically demanding chores.

There is no doubt that music is one ot the best stress relievers of these days, Life has beocme so mechanic and voice less that you cannot just live happily. In this kind of world music is still makig some difference by giving its melody to calm our mind. AS music has got different faces you need different kind of music to cheer up yourself. There are other stress relievers that can be found in my blog, please visit my profile to get that
