The Province of Mactan Islands

In 2006 to 2007, three Cebu Representatives proposed to divide the province in to four. But said legislators failed to pass their respective bills and Cebu remains one province. But here comes again another plan of the politicians here. After becoming a highly-urbanized city last year, the City of Lapu-lapu is now independent from the Provincial Government of Cebu. So there's lots of proposals from different politicians here to redistrict not only the 6th District, but the whole province. Try to get a view of Mactan and the whole province. Would you agree to separate not only the city but the whole island and the islets nearby, including the town of Cordova from the present province to form The Province of Mactan Islands, Philippines?

I dont really have idea if which is which, or what is good for the people of Cebu as a whole. If politicians want to divide the province, there might be more benefits or advantages the residents will get or enjoy, I really don't know. How about you? Since you are from Cebu, do you think to separate the whole island as you have mentioned will benefit the people living there or not.

when it comes to budget alone, the city as highly-urbanized now, will receive a bigger allotment compared before when it was still a component city. if it will become a province, then it would be bigger. i think, correct me if i'm wrong, the budget of a big province is the same amount a smaller province will get. that means that in a small province, the budget will be more than enough for the service and benefits they can give to the people.

thanks for your response, madam. but mactan islands will remain an island even if the island with its islets will be converted, politically as a province. this only means that it will have bigger share of the national budget, a lot more money to share with the people of mactan...

Hmm.. I think it's all about being independent, but I still won't drop the thought about money here. Since Mactan is starting to grow and attract investors, these politicians-slash-businessmen might be eying for their own selfish interests. I mean, why would Cebu as the oldest city in the Philippines need to separate it's territory when working as one would benefit the whole island?.. In times like these, we should always put in mind the interest of nation first and not those of which only a few could profit for..

to give you additional information, if you still don't hear about this, the name cebu is not just the city, the oldest city we have in the country. cebu also is the name of the province, where cebu is the biggest or the main island in the province. so, dividing cebu, the province will not affect cebu, the city.

Thank you for enlightening me, I already knew that I shouldn't be participating on this one but I also thought of giving it a try. I think this should discussion should be addressed mostly for the people of Cebu, sorry about that..

let us leave it to the legislators of the province, which is really best for cebu and the mactan islands. never mind if they have some black propaganda hidden there, what is important is the people, food on the table...
