A group of researchers from the University of North Dakota in the United States published in the magazine Journal of Neuroinflammation, a study which showed that a daily dose of caffeine helps individuals to protect the brain from the harmful effects of cholesterol closely related to disease.
These conclusions were reached by examining the effect of caffeine on blood-brain barrier, a natural mechanism that prevents harmful substances to move from blood to the brain. As in the past other studies have suggested that high levels of cholesterol - found in fatty foods - may of the beneficial effects of caffeine may somehow help scientists to find a way to block the development of the disease.
The trials lasted 12 weeks, were made on rabbits fed with a diet rich in fats and the equivalent of a cup of coffee per day (3mg of caffeine). At the end of the period of study, the researchers found that the blood-brain barrier and 'proved considerably more intact in rabbits that have received caffeina.

Coffee has been viewed nowadays for its benefits rather that its caffiene containing effect. In addition to that it also contains antioxidants to prevent cancer and diabetes the benefits you get by of course drinking coffee in moderation. Anything is bad if you drink too much.

It is not something that I invented myself. What I wrote is the result of a scientific work whose results are presented in this site http://www.jneuroinflammation.com/content/5/1/12

I don't like coffee but I drink alot of diet coke which has caffeine so if drinking caffeine keeps alzheimers away I will never get it as I can drink up to a 12 pack of diet coke a day that is alot of caffeine and yes I know it is not good for my health.

Wow!!! I'm sure that the amount of coffee I drink will ensure a sharp mind for years and years to come, the way I drink the stuf. I drink atleast two cups of coffee a day. Not bad, considering the fact that I live in a coffee shop.

It would be great if it was that simple but alas my father got alzheimers and I am pretty sure he drank coffee and or tea.
Alzheimers is worst that you can imagine so it would be great when they can finally work out the cause and how to beat it - but I think they might be doing a bit more research if that is what they came up with.

Doesn't it figure... I had to cut back to half a cup at a time, and then down to a quarter cup... at least I haven't given it up entirely... this is good incentive to keep drinking it, but my osteoporosis is a good reason to stop... OH, I'm SO confused!!!
