What's in a Name?

I was just in PM, with a friend here in mylot, and he said something about my real name that was intuitive and spot on. My real name is Tammi for those of you who do not know it and thanks to Minnie some of us are introducing ourselves today!
A question just popped into my head that I thought might be fun and interesting to see what kind of stories you all might have behind why you were named what you were. Just something to learn a little bit more about each other.
I have 2 older sisters 11 years and 10 years older. When my mother was pregnant with me she refused to even entertain the thought she might be having yet another girl. My name was to be Gary Franklin. When I was born, and a girl at that, my mother in her delirium cursed her doctor and from the stories I have heard he was the lowest kind of slime on earth... LMAO like it was his fault I was a girl...
When my mother was recovered and laying in the hospital room, the song by Debbie Reynolds began to play "Tammi's in love", so by golly thats what my name is!
What interesting stories or not so interesting stories are behind your names? Hey make one up even.

I don't really have a story behind my name, Darlene. Basically, it was my mom's middle name. She also like the Darlene that was on the Mickey Mouse Club show when she was younger. I guess when she saw that girl in that show, she thought to herself that she would name her daughter Darlene. So, here I am with this name.

Hiya Angel......
Just so ya know, my story is for real........
One of my uncles, had a teacher when he was in school, and had a crush on her. Her name was Merlin, yep you heard it right.
He wanted my mom to name her next baby, Merlin. Thankfully he didn't show up at the hospital, when she filled out the birth certificate, cause I was the next BABY!!!!!!!
She actually wrote "Marilyn" on the birth certificate. Thank gosh, cause growing up with the name Merlin being a girl, would have really been BAD!!!!!!
That's my story, and I'm stickin to it!

Well my friend, my name came from the month when I was born. It's during the month of March, so my father named me Mark. He also happen to wish that I was his junior, but for some reasons my mother stopped him from doing it. And so with Mark as my first given name, my father then added his first name as my second name. Now I am the one who's suffering on what they did to my name, I need more time to write my name!
But anyways, I am still honored and thankful to carry my father's name with me. I just hope that I did lived through his expectations, as any child would do for their parents..

Aww that is cut angel honey - lucky for you she din't call you Gary Franklin anyway even though you were a girl! lol I was meant to be called after my Grandma but she had always hated her name and begged my mum not to do that - she came up with Morag and I was stuck with it! lol I do have a kind of funny story about my Mums name though... my mum was going to be named April but luckily for her someone noticed in time that with a surname like Fulton April wasn't a good idea (April Ful/Fool) so she was named Avril instead as it was French for April, My Gran knew nothing about France or the language but she was determined to stick with the name! lol Did I ever tell you my daughters initials are NAG? It could have been worse if she were a boy her initials were going to be F.A.G! xxx

My story is fairly similar to yours. My parents had a girl and were fully expecting a boy !! The doctors told them I would be a boy, and they had a name of MIchael all picked out and ready to go. Well, needless to say, I popped out, not at all pleased with being called a boy and immediately pee'd on the doctor..lol. Long story short, since I was a girl and no name had been picked, I became Michele.. the closest thing to Michael there was !!

My real first name is Karen, middle name, Elizabeth.
The reason my name is Karen is because my parents wanted to give me a name that no one else in the family had, and that did not really have any nicknames or short forms to it. At first I was going to be Elizabeth, but because of that shorter name issue, I have it as a middle name instead.
What my parents did NOT stop to think about, is the fact that they named me pretty darn close to my dad's ex wife's name. She was a Kathleen... but with the same middle and surname as I. lol. We were listed side by side in the Toronto phone book for years. lmao!

My parents decided not to name any of us after somebody. They decided to give each of us modern first names and traditional middle names. For my first name, they were thinking of Aurora but they ended up using the English version of the name, Dawn. For the middle name, Elizabeth. Don't know where that came from. I just know that I'm grateful not to be named Mabel or Maude! lol

"Aurora" the name reminds me of one of the greatest books I have ever read and one of my utmost favorite movies.... Terms of Endearment Aurora Greenway. i have always fancied myself like her.

Well my real name is Melanie....and the story goes that it was actually my father who picked out the name and he liked it as he was a Gone With The Wind fanatic and like the character Melanie (hey much better than being named Scarlet I think)---the real funny part of it...my mother's side of the family was in NY...my father (and where I was born) in Calif...when my mother talked to her grandmother and told her what the name was to be for me, she said..."Why are you calling her that down south name for?" Seems Melanie is a popular name in the southern states..LOL

My name is Dana Lynn. "Dan-nuh not Day-nuh" My dad gave me my name. I was the only one my mom let him name. I guess my name was supposed to be spelled Danna but somehow an N got left out. Someone here made a point that for my pronunciation it should be Daana..which I like even better! It is even more unique!
My name would have been Jason Michael had I been a boy. They had another girl after me (Nicole Marie), then finally a boy. They named him Joseph Michael because as my mom likes to tell us, "____ stole my name when she had a boy!"

Before I was born, my parents decided that I would be called Katharine or Hannah if I was a girl, or Jonathan or David if I was a boy. I'm female, and when I was born my parents looked at me and decided I looked like a Katharine. They chose the name because it's the closest spelling of the name to the original Greek, 'katharos,' which means pure. :)

My name is Cherine my mom called me cherine because she just liked the name no special stories behind my name but at least she knew what it meant many people give their babies names that they don't know what they mean they just like the sound of it! mine means ''sweet'' in persian though none in my family is persian we just happen to use some persian names in egypt which is where my mom comes from but my dad is moroccan and i was born there and what matters to me is that my mom insisted that me and my sisters we would be given nice names and never moroccan names since moroccan names are usualy old fashioned and bad! so thanks to mom i wasn't given a bad name:) i'm not very fund of my name though because many girls are called Cherine in egypt so it's not unique but what i like is that it's written in french since in morocco french is the second language and in egypt the second language is english so my persian egyptian name being written in french gives it a little flavor when im in egypt and back in morocco im almost the only moroccan girl called cherine:) and that makes it up for me!
