I use Windows XP professional in my office and Window server 2003 at home now.
I remembered when I started to learn computer in junior middle school, we use floppy disk to start, then when I came to senior middle school, we began to use Windows 95, then Windows 98.
I installed Windows vista for a short time last year, but my memory isn't large enough, it made my computer very slow. I also try to use Ubuntu, because it is more safe.
What operating system do you use now? Do you always change your operating system?
Please share, thanks!

Well I use Windows XP. Its great, I have the same operating system at home as well as at work. it makes so easy to mfamiliarise my self. I havent had much of a chance to tryput Windows vista. I hear it great. I dont change the operating system unless i go for a better configuration. I stated from Windows 95. Nowadays no one uses them anyway.

Yes, the interface of Windows vista is terrific, but we need the large enough memory and good vedio card.

Hey same here. Nothing can beat an Apple Mac. :D
Vista is simply too slow. I've heard it takes more than 1 GB or space. Microsoft

Like you, I have been using computers for many years now. My first PC was purchased 20.5 years ago in December 1987 and I remember the first Windows I used was Win3.1. I've since changed computers 5 times, and have progressed with the Windows evolution to Win95, Win98, WinME to WinXP, which is the current OS I am on now. I am in no hurry to change to Win Vista unless I buy my next PC. I have heard how the Vista can make one's computer crawl. I am happy with XP for now, and my PC is pretty fast, so I am not about to try some fancy OS that will only make my system slower in performance. I foresee that Microsoft will continue to support XP for a while longer because it will not be easy for companies to migrate to Vista so easily.

Hi Lucy, it's easy for home users to just upgrade to another Windows OS and play around with the new features, and don't feel much impact. But for companies, migrating an OS is certainly anything but trivial. Compatibility with existing applications is a big issue, and it takes time for all the incompatible programs to be rewritten and tested in the new OS. Also, as the company migrates, two concurrent OSes have to be supported during the migration period, and each PC and server has to be migrated one by one. Years ago where I worked, the organization was on Win3.1 and there were at least 15000 PCs and hundreds of servers that needed to be migrated. It took the organisation tons of efforts and co-ordination to move everyone to Win95, and the whole process took nearly 2 years!! I guess Microsoft always has to be mindful of all the difficulties faced by companies when they make their decision to stop supporting one of their older OSes.

I totally agree with you. Microsoft will continue to support XP for a while longer.
Some softwares are uncompatible with Vista.
I have never used Win 3.1 and Win ME.

Right now, i'm using windows XP, home edition.. hehe ^_^ Windows vista is not as good as it cant support certain softwares.. hehe ^_^
And when i 1st started using computer, it was also windows 95, but i dun use a floppy to start up the computer.. And i think ever since windows 98 or after the millenium, floppy disk started to disappear and taken over by CD-Rs till few years ago, USB port.. haha

When I started learning the computer we learned on old Apple Computers with floppy disk. Our first home computer had Windows 3.1 (one of the worst Windows systems) then we finally upgraded to Windows 95 which was a BIG improvement. Then we finally got a better desktop and it ran Windows ME. We thought ME sucked because it crashed so much, and we bought a laptop and another desktop all which have XP. We also bought extra license for our older computer and installed XP over the ME. For some reason XP runs much better than the ME installed. We don't want to upgrade to VISTA because our systems aren't compatible plus we are computing fine without Vista. We thinking we may buy a compact computer that includes Vista, but we're not sure about that. We did try Ubantu, too. We loved the software, but we were sad that the support forum wasn't too helpful. Plus many software that we had didn't come with Linux driver and the manufacture didn't have it on their website. Therefore it created more problems so we decided to uninstall it.

I have use Microsoft since its DOS days, I remember booting it in a 5ΒΌ floppy disk - the big one, and there no hard disk yet. Now I'm using XP, it would take some more time for me to switch to Vista since my PC is not ready for it. I've been wanting to try Linux, can't figure out just yet which flavor to choose.

I am using the window xp for the quite some time as it is more compatible and reliable operating system as compared to the other like window vista. I have even used vista but it is not that much reliable and compatible as that of the window xp and vista finds a great difficulty in running of some programs and the software and even some of the games too so all this problems in the vista switched me again to the window XP where there is no such problem. The reason is that vista depend on a data card that is still to be developed so hope when it develops vista will start working properly as that of the Xp but till then i am switched to the xp only.

I am using computer since 1988 when there was Commodore 64. Many few people know what computer that was with a heavy and big seperate keyboard. A very long and heavy disk drive which almost weigh 10 kgs and floppy was use. I used to play games on my Commodore 64 and each game took 40 to 50 minutes to load. Commodore 64 was plugged with my TV. I also had ATARI, SEGA in my childhood and played games on that. Now graduating in computers and working for 6 years, when I look back, I have seen many Computer Operating systems which are:-
1) Microsoft Windows 3.1
2) Microsoft Windows 95
3) MicrosoftWindows 98
4) Microsoft Windows ME
5) Microsoft Windows 2000
6) Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
7) Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1
8) Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
9) Microsoft Windows Vista
10)Linux Red Hat
I do not change my computer's operating system, unless it give problems. Whenever, I have installed a newer version of my computer's operating was due to virus attack. Presently, I am using Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack from 2002. My all time favorite Operating System is Microsoft Windows ME (Gold Edition). Gold edition is when you upgrade Microsoft Windows 98 to ME.

My laptop came with Vista, and I'm happy with it. My pcs have Windows XP, I don't plan to change them. They work just fine with what they've got, and I wont have to download anything new to run other devices on them.
I don't change operating systems, I think its pretty much senseless unless there is a major issue going on that can only be fixed by upgrading or downgrading. I've changed systems for friends, and it seems like its a waist of time. If my stuff gets outdated, the pc is too, so I'll just upgrade the whole darn thing...ts just easier.
