The definition of obesity is: a condition of being overweight or overly fat (based on your Body Mass Index). Morbid obesity is a condition of being 2 or more times your normal body weight and it leads to many illnesses and diseases. Obesity is not the cause it is the effect. Compulsive Disorder is one of the causes of obesity. There are many others such as: depression, stress, etc. Many illnesses can come from obesity such as: sleep apnea, edema, congestive heart failure, body pain, etc. I hope this helps.

I don't feel obesity is a disease. I think it's an eating disorder. A lot of obese people feel a compulsion to eat and often times it's triggered by emotional problems. I used to be incredibly obese and most of my food issues were linked to depression and self-hatred and anger. I self-medicated by overeating and it got to the point where it was as if the food actually had a voice and it called to me. If I knew there were snack foods in the house, I couldn't think of anything else until I had some. Eventually I dealt with my issues, got professional help to learn about nutrition, lost a 100 lbs and recovered from the disorder. But I have to be vigilant, so that I don't start falling into those old patterns again.
