Standing bottles on the conveyor belt...

This is so annoying as a cashier, people will stand bottles such as wine, beer and pop bottles on the conveyor belt without thinking that when the belt moves they may fall. Then when they do fall they stand them up again....hello, they just fell over why not lie them down!!
Its even worse when they get to the end of the belt and fall on my arm OUCH!!! Lucky I am aware of the bottles and do try and catch them first.
Some people do stand them up but they will have their hand on top of the bottles to prevent them falling over!!
Whats your views on this?? Have you noticed people who do this?? Am I just easy to annoy????

haha... true... I have not worked on a till before but you are right!! One other thing that annoys me is when they only realise they have to get their wallet out to when the cashier finishes and gives the final price to pay... It really gets on my nerves when there is a massive que because of one person who is taking ages to get his/her wallet out!!!

Even worse when they get to the checkout and the cashier tells them how much, they got to get their wallet/card out and.....what do you know! They have left it in the car!! Sometimes the have left in at home and in teh case with our tills, the whole thing has to cancelled and then will be re-scanned if they return. I mean we can cash it off but then if they dont return we would have to void it all of which is more hassle!!
It does always seem to happen when their is a queue and the people behind only have a few items each!!

You caught me. I'm one of those annoying customers who likes to stand the bottles upright. Most times they don't fall cause I'll have stuff in front and behind them. What I find that is most annoying is there are lines 10ppl long and only 2 registers open. I had to wait in line for close to an hour once cause both lines had ppl in them with cartfulls of groceries when I only had a few items. Darn customers wouldn't let me go ahead of them either.

Its not so bad when its got stuff infront of it or behind to catch it if does fall but when its the first thing that is put on and its standing thats when it bugs me!!
We normally have 2 tills open if its busy, we are a quiet store but can have the odd busy moment when people come with a few tolley loads. We have 4 tills but 3 only get used, the 3rd is only used to cover breaks or if it extremely busy!!
It can be a pain when you have a couple of things and are behind someone with a trolley load. I have known customers ask me if its okay if they come in front and I tell them they will have to ask the customer. Normally our customers are nice enough to offer the person to go in front, I think this is so they have more unloading time!!

rotflmao I am going to have to pay attention to how I place bottles at check out. the only thing I can think of for the reason people would want their bottles standing is because lying on their sides makes gives the beverage that shook up thing with the carbonation. I suppose the smart thing to do is lay them flat against other food items and prevent them from rolling then. I am really going to pay attention to this when I am in the stores now.

Im surprised you have never noticed!! It must be soemthign they do in ur store then!! lol
I prefer them lying down and can understand the customers dont want them fizzing but they will get more fizzy when they fall over!! Lying them down and using food items or otehr stuff such as the next customer sign prevents tehm rolling around.
Let me know when you spot someone doing this when your in the stores!!

This would annoy me too. But I guess I wouldn't take it too hard. You never know what kind of day someone is having, or what could be on thier minds. It's probably completly unintentional... or they are trying to stand them up to make it easy for you. Who really knows? while this problem can get very annoying (believe me i know it.) .. you just gotta take it like it is. Kinda let it roll. there are worse things. I must say... being a cashier can get annoying fast.. people do exhibit some strange behaviors. :-P good luck. try not to let it get to you!!!!
