Do your kids drive you crazy when...

they won't get up for school in the morning or goto bed at night. Everyday I have to go through the same fight with my boys to get up in the morning and fight with them to goto bed at night. And they are TEENAGERS so you can't really make them do anything. One is bipolar, so he is the hardest to deal with. My soon to be 13 year old HAS to wait until 7:32 am to get up and be out for the bus at 7:41 am. It drives me nuts. Now my 17 year old son will sometimes get up without too much hassel and also goto bed when he is tired, but the other two are driving me crazy. Any suggestions to get them up in the morning?

I am glad that you are finding some solution to your bedtime issues. My son will sneak into the kitchen when I am sleeping and I wake up to a kitchen that looks like a storm went through it. He will go in there around 3 am. And that is also when he decides to take a shower. He drives me nuts. We tried meds and they give him headaches or made him sleep all day and he can't function.

I responded three months ago to a similar post: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1416569.aspx?p=2 It gives the possible reasons why teens don't get up early and suggestions how to overcome the problem.

I have problems getting my boys to sleep early but do not have any problems waking them up in the morning, which is a very good thing. I just worry that they do not get enough sleep at night, though they take naps in the afternoon. My eldest would obediently shuffle out of bed towards the breakfast table to have his breakfast even if his eyes are still half closed My second one, I still have to encourage to tell me some stories so that he will be awake enough to get up from bed.

well there are 2 things you can do, either you just let them be late and they will see the consequences themselves as soon as they reach school. Or be way more strict, ofcourse my kids are a little younger than yours, but I always get them out of bed without a problem. Sometimes they will get angry when I wake them up but I am a very strict mother, and make sure they get out when needed to.

I am and have been a strict mother to no avail. My son that I have the hardest time with is even on probation and if he falls to sleep in school it is a violation. So, I am waiting for his next court date because he has fallen asleep a couple of times.

I have a 13 year old boy and he absolutely hates to get up in the morning! I've tried everything I can think of, including the glass of cold water (at his suggestion!) and nothing works. He usually makes it to the bus, but doesn't wake up until about 5 minutes before he has to walk out the door. The worst part is that, now my 8 year old girl is following his lead! I can assume it's only a matter of time before my youngest starts as well. I also understand how hard it is to deal with a person with bipolar since I have it as well. I can tell you what my mother did to wake me when I was in school. It was very simple, she took all my blankets off of me and took them to her bedroom. I couldn't sleep without something covering me up, so I got up because they weren't within my reach. That doesn't work for everyone, but it sure did work for me!!!

Tell me about it. My son was like that as a kid, from the very beginning and still now as a man. I got tired of fighting with him, that now if he has to go somewhere and must get up at a certain time, I tell him I will call you once, if you don't answer your on your own because I will not fight with you to get up when I am the one doing you the favour.

I know where you are coming from. We have a 12 and 13 year old boy, at night its a hassle as you say, and I couldnt count the times I've had to make a special trip because "we missed the bus" . We have tried pretty much everything. I am interested in what others have to say as well.
